SOURCE: JL AUDIO 12W7-3 SUB
the rottem electronic smell is the voice coil burned up as well as the bad sound, isn't the 1st time i have seen a JL sub blown. not worth fixing buy a new one the cost is not that much more repair on them is 250 - 450 depending on how bad it is and only JL can do the repairs as they dont authorize repair shops access to their voice coils. however i can sell you a new sub with full JL factory warranty drop shipped to your door for about 475$ or I could do you a way better sub ( the baddest competion sub made in the last 5 years) an olympus 2412 dual 2 ohm 5000 watt monster that has user replaceable voice coil options and is killing the competition circuit right now for about $275.00 shipped. it will stomp 2 13 w7's into the ground all day long. 2 subs vs just 1

SOURCE: i have a jl audio 12w7 with a 750/1 hd amp
My full time job is designing and building sub enclosures. So you are in luck.
Anyway you don't want deck speakers and amp for more bass and adding a battery doesn't help unless you already have power problems. Adding an amp and a sub would help but can be expensive. My main recommendation would be to change the box your sub is in, designing it for your vehicle. If you are in need of bass that is crazy loud, then you would be adding subs and amps. Your amp can drive a bunch of subs if you want and it would probably be more economical to just add a sub or three. Shoot me an Email @ [email protected] if you need specifications on adding such improvements.

SOURCE: i want to make my own speaker box for a 12w7 jl
i just built a box for my 12w7 and it sounds good but the calculator i used obviously didnt take in factor the it was a w7 because the port is EXTREMELY to small you can hear the extreme volume of air moving in and out of the port so make sure you take that in to factor if you deside to build a ported box got pic if you interested [email protected]
SOURCE: hi i have a 15"w3-d4 jl audio sub,can anyone tell
Hi,
I've had a look at the JLaudio website and they recommend 2 box designs, a ported and a sealed.
The sealed box needs a volume of:
2.125 ft3 or 60.2 litres.
To get this you would need to build the box to these dimensions:
22" x 16" x 14.75" or 559mm x 406mm x 375mm
The ported box needs a volume of:
3.50 ft3 or 99.1 litres.
To get this you would need to build the box to these dimensions:
24" x 19" x 18" or 610mm x 483mm x 457mm.
The port needs to be:
3.0" x 10.9" or 76mm x 277mm.
The enclosure recommendations listed above are external dimensions which assume the use of 3/4" (19mm) thick material. If you are using 5/8" (16mm) thick material, subtract 1/4" (6.5mm) from
each dimension. Do not use any material with a thickness of less than 5/8" (16mm) as this may
compromise the rigidity of the enclosure.
ā¢ All enclosure volumes listed above are net internal volumes! Driver displacement, port displacement and brace displacement must be added to obtain the final gross internal volume.
All enclosure dimensions above have already taken this into acount.
ā¢ When using two subwoofers in a common enclosure simply double the required volume and,
in the case of a ported enclosure, use two times the recommended port(s). Likewise, when using
three subwoofers in a common enclosure simply triple the required volume and, in the case of a
ported enclosure, use three times the recommended port(s).
ā¢ We recommend the use of this speaker in a bi-amplified system using high-quality satellite
speakers and a high-quality amplifier. We do not recommend the use of this subwoofer with a
passive crossover (coil), as this type of device will adversely affect performance.
As you can see it all depends on the space you have available, whilst the vented box will give you a more efficient bass responce especially with the low range frequencies.
If you to go and look at the information about your sub woofer and find out all the information about building or buying the correct enclosure then this is the link to the pdf file I found:
The enclosure info is on page 3:
