A Patch is an update to the software, which updates the program. Usually it fixes bugs or adds new features. Some programs have an option to "Check for updates" on the About option.

Others require you to go to the manufacturer site, and download the patch from an Updates (or Downloads) page. They usually give you instructions on how to install it on the same page.

The general idea is to save the patch to your computer, then double-click on it. That usually starts the install.

If you need more specific instructions, post a follow up here with the software name and we can give you more help.

Here's a tip - when you post questions here, try to be a bit more specific about your issue - what software, what problems. You'll get a faster answer that way.

Good Luck

And follow the instructions here to upgrade the BIOS. I suggest using their instructions as they will be far more accurate than mine for this specific system and BIOS update.

A problem with The Sims Pet Stories

When you had the game before, were you running a different version of Windows than you are using now? Are you using software now you didnt have before? Has the game ever worked properly? Head to the game company's website and see if there is a patch or an update for the game. It seems like a hardware to software issue. Reinstall the game, restart the computer (even if youre not told to do so), then look for a patch. If there is one, follow the instructions to install it, and restart after installing the patch. DO NOT TRY TO RUN THE GAME until all of this is done first.

Anita,

No one at FixYa sold you a warranty, as far as I know.

Please don't neglect a bottom-line idea here: If your drivers are working, you may have no real reason to update. Unless you're playing lots of games or something, it should not matter.

I strongly suspect someone told you have 18 outdated drivers -- who told you, and what did they tell you? Are they trying to sell you something?

An 18-month-old computer may have quite a few outdated pieces of software, and also some outdated drivers.

You can update your drivers and software in a number of ways. All have some ... problems, but they're worth a try. Secunia offers, for home users, a free product called PSI; that will look for outdated software and typically offer a download link. Please read everything it tells you carefully. Secunia PSI may default to running every time you restart the computer; that annoys me, and I've disabled it, but your mileage may vary.

A free product called RadarSync will also try to check for outdated drivers. I've had some up-and-down problems with this; sometimes I'll have version 10 of something and it'll tell me I need to update to version 5, for example. But sometimes, sometimes, the drivers are legitimate.

The only thing that should matter is that you're regularly getting Windows updates (see a Start: Control Panel) by the same name, and you've got anti-virus software (and probably anti-spyware software) installed that's of your choice. I use AVG Free Edition; others like it and others loathe it. There are plenty of options for you out there.

I am attempting to find a patch so that I can run my Webster's New World Dictionary & Thesaurus on Windows Vista. This ran great on XP, and I was told there may be a patch for Vista.

by the looks of it there is a 6.3 release of the software that is vista compatable.

You can also call their techs at 1-800-696-0514 to find out if this is a update you can aquire.

below is a link to the newer version on amazon.

I am having a problem with Adobe Reader 8.1.1. I am using Windows XP. Originally the program ran fine, but lately when I click on a link on a website that uses Adobe Reader I get a message that says...

do you the original installer of your adobe reader?

if you..when uninstalling adobe and the error occurs just browse for the .msi in your adobe installer and hit ok...

after it uninstall...download foxit reader and install it instead of the adobe reader....

hope this helps

Windows Media Player

Try other software like NERO. There's more software you can use..

When burning a CD set your speed at 48kbps or 36kbps it is lower burning but its more efficient. If you burn on a maximum speed there's a risk that you get a poor quality of your burn.

Rate if this fix your problem.. Thnx!

No help from the company.

Hi, can you pls try getting the motherboard details (model #/bios version/date of manufacture). This is normally (but not always) displayed at powerup after videocard info. If it is too fast, press Pause and copy the details. Bios version is normally on top while mb model is at the bottom. To continue booting, press escape. Another method is to run Bios Wizard @ http://www.esupport.com/bioswiz/index2.html or CTBios @ http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/CTBIOS.shtml. These are not your patch but are only utilities to determine bios and/or mb info. Pls post details soon as you have them and perhaps we can work from there. Good luck
