Hello,

Does it happen when it is connected to battery and power? If it does I would verify that the Power Managment Options are set like you want. You can do this by clicking Start > Run > type PowerCfg.cpl and press enter. You may want to temporarily choose the option to turn off all power mangement to see if that solves the issue.

Here is some information and screenshots of xp to help you.

If you have Vista, here is some information on disabling Power Management.

Thanks

This could be a hard drive crash, however, I just repaired a machine that had a similar issue. A loose connection an the board was prompting the machine to blue screen, and then shutdown all together. I had to tear the machine completely down to find it.

Well my toshiba satellite u405-s2820 turns on but the screen is just black... what I'm I to do??

Firstly unplug everything from the laptop (even the power) and remove the battery, hold the power button down for 10secs then plug the power back in only, see what happens...

If nothings changed...
Try and plug a normal monitor into the VGA port and turn the laptop on;
you will get the toshiba POST screen if the graphics card still works (then the actual screen is at fault)
if you dont then the graphics card is at fault..

[Just a thought... does the laptop bleep when you first turn it on?]

Let me know how you get on...
