Color Printing Problem

My Lexmark 5150 won't print color. It will only print the black outline. I have replaced the cartridge and ran a test page. When the test page prints the windows logo is in full color. I unplugged the main power for 70 seconds as suggested by another forum, still nothing. There was a mention of a chip on the mother board causing the problem, but then why did the windows logo print in color? Any ideas?

I am trying to avoid reinstalling it, this is at my work settings and to get one of the idiots up from my ISD department to reinstall it will be a nightmare.

Thank you for your time, I will have to find someone to do that.

Reload the software and drivers from the website. This will load the latest driver updates for your printer and probably solve your problem. If you want me to call you and walk you through the process e-mail me your phone number and I will call you. Then you can rate this one a fixya.

This is definitely a software software problem and the only way to fix it is to have the dork come and reinstall the software. If the printer prints fine there is nothing wrong with the printer itself. When they reinstall the software and it works please see if you can rate this fixya for me. I would really appreciate it so when others have this problem they will know this is hoe it is fixed. Thank you,

I ran out of both black and color ink. I replaced the black ink b/c I do not print in color. But I cannot complete the alignment steps without the color ink.

Lexmark printers usually require both cartridges to have ink left in them to continue printing. But try to press the Cancel button for the Alignment process (this is not recommended). Then try to print a document again to verify that you are able to continue printing without an empty color ink.
If that doesn't help, I would suggest you replace your color cartridge with a new genuine Lexmark cartridge.

Color cartridge won't print

sounds like when your in the print page, go to layout to either print in black or in color. i'm sure you've done this already but thought i would mention
also try this, take out the color cartridge and put back in. turn off all systems and turn on again to see if it reconfigures.
lastly, HP has an awesome web site for trouble shooting, check this out.
hope this helps and good luck

Can't use black cartridge only to print

Unfortunately it is all true.
Personally I would stay away from Lexmark, I am a Canon fan, the MP520 looks real nice, but it's personal choice at the end of the day.

Not printing after color cartridge ran out - new black cartridge installed.

Yes, this printer has fixed printheads and must have ink in each color to prevent damage to the printheads. Even when printing black only each color is spit in the servicing area to keep the printhead unclogged.

After changing cartridge, printer will not print, z645?

First... check to make sure you removed the yellow tab from the new print cartridge

put the ink cartridge back into the printer

click Start
click Control Panel
open Printers and Faxes
click (or double click to open) your printer icon
click on Printer menu
click on cancel all documents

Then try printing again.
If this does not work, look in the manual that came with the printer and check out the troubleshooting section.
