I had one of these printers claiming there was a paper jam, when there wasn't. As others have suggested, three hard slaps above the paper tray, and hey presto, it works.(This seems to be the resolution to all problems. It will probably refill the cartridge too ... hmmm)

HP ENVY 7645 e-All-in-One Printer. Paper jam on HP Envy 7645 when no paper can be found?

Question edited for clarity and toss in some CAPS.

Open all the doors including the bypass door and remove the trays. Get a flashlight and look for a tiny piece of paper covering a sensor. Also try this for a false paper jam error state. Check the Auto document Feeder (ADF) as well, last video.

Reset the printer, which might clear a false paper jam error, and then try to print again.
  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the power source.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer. note:

Theie is no paper jammed in the ADF, but the screen keeps readindg Error Document in ADf, Check document

Please open the top cover to the Auto Document Feeder (ADF) and examine the paper sensor switch located in the middle area, just before where the paper enters the ADF. You will be looking for a small peice of paper lodged in the sensor, or dust in the sensor. If you detect either, clear it out and try the ADF again.
If you do not see a small "flag" sticking up from the sensor (looks like a backworkds "L") then the sensor has been broken, and will need to be replaced.

What does document in ADF mean

Hello, Thanks for using Fixya today.
ADF is auto document feeder, used to feed a document into a scanner or printer. The error is associated when there is a document or paper jam at the document feeder, or paper trail.
This would happen mostly on scanners and all in one printers after witch a document is left in the feeder or there was a paper jam occurrence. We hope this answers your questions today?
Please contact us again if you still have a issue, or need help with anything else.
Thanks for using Fixya.com

My daugher is using Canon MP190, and there is a blink error message E3, which according to the online manual, it is due to a paper jam. We checked, and there is no paper left in the printer, but the error...

Hello, Welcome to FixYa!

E3 error is mostly because of paper jam. their may be small bit paper jam in side
There are some "micro-sensors" that detect a paper jam. There will be tiny piece of paper, or a lump of dust, inside those sensors, thus "tripping" the sensor and saying you paper jam.

To solve it
Open printer cover and check to make sure no paper or foreign objects obstructing the printer feeder

If you become sure that now really there is no paper, dust or foreign objects then
Turn the printer off, and disconnect the AC power-cable. Open the printer cover & now give the printer a "blow-job" by compressed air.
If still problem exist then best & final option is to just contact to any Canon service provider

Anymore help regarding the issue, I am here to help

Cannot clear error message "Document

Hi nigel_lester,

This error message "Document in ADF" that you are getting means that you need to remove foreign object from the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF). Kindly follow the procedure below in clearing document jams:

Document jams in the ADF (Document Tray)

1. First, press Stop/Reset.
2. If a multi-page document is loaded, remove any documents other than the jammed page from the ADF. 3. Then, open the Feeder Cover.
4. From under the roller to the Feeder Cover side, remove the jammed page.
5. If a document is not jammed, check the document feed area if there's foreign material. If there's any, carefully remove it.
6. Close the Feeder Cover.

NOTE:
  • If documents remain in the ADF after pressing during scanning, [Document in ADF] will appear on the LCD. Press so that the remaining document is automatically fed out.
  • When rescanning the document after clearing the error, rescan it from the first page.

Document jams in the ADF (inner side)

1. Press Stop/Reset.
2. If a multi-page document is loaded, remove any documents other than the jammed page from the ADF, then open the Feeder Cover.
3. Raise the paper release lever (A) then remove the jammed page from under the roller to the Feeder Cover side.
4. Open the Document Cover and pull out the document from the inner side.
5. Close the Document Cover.
6. Close the Feeder Cover.

Note: When rescanning the document after clearing the error, rescan it from the first page.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using Fixya.

Canon 1023if auto feeder not working. Says check

The document feeder has multiple sensors in it. sometimes they hang up and stay stuck out of place. Other sensors might get paper dust on the face of the sensor. If you can open the document cover, locate the sensors and see if any are ajar or the sensor flag fell out of place. Also look to see if a paper is stuck in any of the paper path areas. Not seeing the machine it is hard to say if it fed paper and says check document, if it did, clean the feed wheels with a wet paper towel.

ADF paper jam, when there is none

If you are receiving an Error Code 103 or a Paper Jam error, but there are no pages in the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder), follow the steps below:
  1. Close the scanning application (such as PaperPort)
  2. Turn off the scanner and the computer
  3. If you have a combination ADF with a Flatbed scanner, unplug the ADF cable from the base of the scanner
  4. Plug the ADF cable back in
  5. Turn on the scanner power
  6. Turn on the computer
  7. Try scanning again
For a Paper Jam or Error Code 103, make sure that the ADF cable in the rear is connected to the scanner base. Check the flatbed to make sure that it is clear. A page incorrectly placed on the flatbed may interfere with a page feeding through the ADF.

If your scanner stops scanning due to a paper jam in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), a warning dialog box appears after a few moments.

To clear a paper jam:
  1. Open the Automatic Document Feeder cover.
  2. Remove the jammed paper and close the cover.
If you are receiving a paper jam error, or if the scanner is running continuously, check to make sure the paper sensor arm is not stuck down.
  1. Open the Automatic Document Feeder cover.
  2. Look for the small black plastic arm
  3. When you press on this arm, it should move freely up and down
  4. If the arm is stuck down, please contact Technical Support for troubleshooting options
  5. Close the ADF cover.

Document jam

There is a sensor in the document feeder that most likely is stuck on the frame or the spring fell off and is not resetting. Have you taken a minela folder and run it through the feeder to be sure there is not a small fragmant of paper on the sensors? If you havent try that, or a piece of paper folded in half twice and keep sliding it though the feeder.
You would have to take the feeder apart to get the sensor set, That is best accomplished by taking the back cover off, then the left side cover, ( looking from the front) and disconnecting the feedder connectors, then removing it from the scanner.
