Garbled audio on firewire transfer to laptop pc

When transferring video & audio via firewire from my Sony DCR-TRV 320 or my DCR-TRV 310, the video is fine but the audio is garbled and full of some odd noise. I have tried various 2 firewire cables, 2 laptops, 3 software programs, and multiple video tapes. When I first got my TRV310 all was fine. It appears the problem is in the computer but I don't know what to do. Someone suggested the codec but how do I know what to do if that's it?

Sorry. I'm using XP SP2 in both PCs. I also tried two different firewire cards in one of the PCs.

I ahve DCR-TRV 460E sony handycam .I want to know how to transfer picture to my PC

The method depends on the computer and operating system as well as the camera. You can get a step-by-step for the transfer process on the Sony website, and other info for your camera, linked from THIS PAGE

Under Tutorials, there is a topic How to transfer video to a computer. You will need to select your OS after clicking that link, then your connection method (USB may not be an option for your camera, some need what Sony call "i.Link" and everyone else calls Firewire).

I want to transfer the video from my handycam sony dcr trv 285e to my laptop for burning the dvd i dont have the driver cd pls help Rgds Bhupesh

to transfer video from your camcorder to your pc you will need a firewire cable (ieee 1394). only with this cable you will be able to transer video.
you will also need a firewire port on your pc.
if you don't have one then you can buy a firewire pci card.

see this for info and pictures

UNABLE TO TRANSFER VIDEO FROM SONY HANDYCAM DCR TRV TO MY LAPTOP

If you want to use the USB cable to connect the Camera to the Computer to transfer the video to the Computer then:

This Camcorder does not support USB streaming with the VISTA Operating System. Use an i.LINK cable to transfer the video to the Computer. The i.LINK port is also called IEEE 1394 or Firewire port. (An i.LINK is a black D shaped connector with 4 or 6 pins. The type of cable to be used will depend on the i.LINK port of your Computer. The Sony Camcorder will have the 4 pin i.LINK cable and if the computer has the 6 pin i.LINK port, then you may have to use the 4 pin to 6 pin i.LINK Cable).

You can use any video capturing software like Windows Movie Maker to transfer the video from the Computer.

Refer this link for the instruction to transfer the video to the Computer using i.LINK cable.

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C111893

NOTE: As the Camcorder does not support USB streaming with Vista, it is not required to use any Sony Device Driver to transfer the video to the Computer. You do not require any Drivers or Software from Sony to transfer the video from the Camcorder to the Computer using the i.LINK/Firewire interface.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How can i transfer videos from DCR-TRv 460E TOCOMPUTER

It is very simple. Install a Firewire (IEEE1394) card in PCI slot (if you don't have any video capture card) and connect DCR460E camcorder to PC through iLink cable. You need a video editing software like Ulead Video studio, Pinnacle studio or any other to be installed in your PC. Then go to capture mode of that programme and capture transfer video to PC hard disk. Windows movie maker is also do the same. For editing and better special effects you should use hihger versions of ulead or pinnacle. Thank you.

Can't transfer dubbed audio (secondary sound) using firewire.

Audio Dubbing on DV: Here's how you do this: Play your tape on the TRV-9 and feed the signal into the TRV-900, using the Firewire connector. Set the TRV-900's audio option to record in the 12-bit mode. When this is done, you will have the video re-recorded on the TRV-900 and the audio laid down on the primary 12-bit audio channel. Then, you can run the tape back through for a 2nd pass in the TRV-900, with the recorder set to the audio-dubbing mode. The audio you put into the TRV-900 this time, will be recorded on the secondary 12-bit channel. You can select either 12-bit channel when you play the edited tape back or you can mix both stereo channels into the output. Once you record on the 16-bit channel, you can't dub audio back onto that recording, without erasing the original channel, as the recording space for both 12-bit channels is occupied. You can't selectively re-record just audio onto the 16-bit channel either, without the video being re-recorded along with it. Both video and audio are sent over the same Firewire connector, so you can't input them from mixed sources, as you can with analog recordings. Only the secondary 12-bit audio channel can be used in the audio-dubbing mode. You can't dub onto the 16-bit channel or onto the primary 12-bit channel. The primary 12-bit channel can be used only when you're recording video along with it.
