Question about Canon Digital Cameras

2 Answers

In May we purchased a Canon Power Shot 590IS. We love the camera, however, battery life with camera is poor at best. With new high energy digital batteries we get approxiamtely 40 - 45 pictures, with 4 differnt manufactures rechargable batteries, we get 12 - 15 pictures, before the batteries require replacement. The camera was retruned to Best Buys where we purchased it aong with an extended warranty. They keep the camera for 10 days, retruned it saying nothing was wrong. Any suggestions?

We are having great success selling our customers the Energizer Lithium AA batteries. They are a little more expensive initially, but the end cost is much lower than alkaline cells. They usually give about 7 times more shots than alkalines. There's also new "oxyride" batteries, but I have no experience with them. Also, take into account the "self-discharge" phenomenon of most nickel metal-hydride rechargeable batteries. They lose about 1% of their charge per day, even when unused. If you charge them today, and don't use them for a month, they will probably be as good as dead. They must be "topped-up" prior to use. For the casual user, however, the Energizer's seem to be the best, most convenient way to go.

Recharge your batteries for AT LEAST 15 hours, even if your charger's light indicates full charge. You should get at least 200 pics from a charge.

How do i get the date off the picture

You need a exif viewer, to see what date you shot the picture. Some cameras allow you to put the date visual in the photo but it must be setup before you shoot. And for these pictures you can't remove the date when you don't need it.
get the program here and load your picture in this program:

I have a Power Shot Canon A540. Even using alkaline batteries, the camera will not stay on. It states replace batteries. It is not on the recall list I checked. It's serial number is 2922243470. ...

I know you said you check, but you could be having the same problem.
ome Canon Powershot A530 and A540 cameras are subject to an advisory recall. It seems that a little hinge spring in the door of the battery compartment can stick out and short the batteries. The end result is very poor battery life, with only a few shots taken before the batteries die. Also the battery door becomes hot.
here is the canon notice

I just purchase the Canon Power shot SX 130. Batteries are new and after a few days the camera batery light is flashing and I can't take any pictures the camera shot down. Please help.

Buy a proper NiMH rechargeable batteries (Sanyo Eneloop for example). Modern cameras will drain alkaline batteries in the matter of hours, not days.

I have a canon power shot A495 digital camera. problem with camera is new or fully charged batteries discharges after taking 4 to 5 photos when taken with flash

all the canon cameras batteries do not last more than 2 years.
the best would be to purchase a new battery which you can find at any Target, OfficeMax of a sort department stores.

I want best battery for canon power shotA400

You too? :) Great little camera - but woefully inadequate power-sourcing.

My PowerShot A400 now only runs on 2x Energizer 'Ultimate Lithium'
batteries at $12 a pair... and last no longer than three weeks or about 50 images.

Won't be buying one of these again. I love the camera - but changing the batteries every few days is just way too expensive. Poor design.

Batter Life

How can I extend my digital camera’s battery life and save money?

Avoid the three main power drains in a digital camera: power cycling, unnecessary flash, and excessive LCD (liquid-crystal display) use. A camera uses power each time it initializes or shuts down, so avoid cycling the camera on and off between shots; you should only turn the camera off when you finish taking pictures.

Also, because it takes energy to use a flash, turn this component off in daylight or high-light areas. Even if your camera doesn’t fire the flash, it takes energy to keep the flash charged.

In addition, the color LCDs used on digital cameras can demand a lot of power (especially if the camera is left on for a prolonged period), so turn off the LCD and use the optical viewfinder rather than the LCD to frame the snapshot. Plus, make sure you only use the LCD sparingly to review your snapshots.

If you haven’t purchased a camera yet, choose one that uses common (low-cost) alkaline batteries rather than the more expensive lithium cells. Most cameras that operate on AA or AAA batteries also will accept rechargeable batteries, which may cost more initially but can easily pay for themselves in the long run. Of course, always refer to a camera’s manual for specific operating suggestions and precautions.

Kindly regards,
micro
