Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a Daewoo DS608P Freeview box which will not detect any chennels. The pre=scan and scan appear normal, but nothing is detected. The TV, which has no Scart socket, works fine on analogue, and I have tried the Daewoo box on another TV which usually works with a Humax box, but with the same result. I presume the tuner must be at fault, but is this repairable or can you assist me in locating a similar Daewoo or other brand replacement for my TV without Scart? Many thanks, Barry J. Webb.

Thanks for the message, but I have another make of box which is working normally, and have been able to buy a replacement for the Daewoo. The precise purpose of these boxes is to cope with the change in transmission mode in the U.K., which will come into force next Autumn in my area (Cornwall). I have opened the Daewoo box, and note signs of excessive heat either side of what I take to be a memory chip. I therefore suspect that the tuner is scanning correctly, but that the channels are not being stored due to the memory failure. R.I.P.! Thanks anyway.

My TV will not stop switching itself off

Hi, The first thing to do is troubleshoot your TV independent to any other service provider that has a box that probably connects to your TV via a HDMI cable or old version scart.

Simply turn off your TV and turn off the socket that the TV is plugged in for 20 mins. Also turn of any Virgin media boxes.

After 20 mins turn on the TV. Do not worry if you get a message saying no signal detected. Wait and see if the TV stays on with no messages such as auto-standby. If the TV remains on with no problems then turn on your Virgin Media Box. The box will need to initialise ( about 30 seconds ) and then the TV should recognise the HDMI signal and you will see the Virgin TV.

If your TV turns off at any point during this process you have a fault with the TV, If when you turn on the Virgin box and no signal is detected you have either a cable connection problem or a Virgin Box problem, so using your TV REMOTE turn your TV back to ARIEL input to receive the normal television broadcasts via your Ariel that give you the normal freeview television that all modern TV's can receive, if you can get the normal reception contact virgin support who will troubleshoot your problem.

No instruction to set up the freeview box digihome dvb 915 can you help

Set up should be quite straightforward assuming you have all the bits.
You will need
  1. a standard co-axial aerial lead from your TV antenna to the female socket on the Freeview Box
  2. A scart to scart lead to connect the Freeview box (tv out socket) to the television.
If you wish to connect a video recorder or other equipment you may also need a second coaxial lead (male to female) for the RF through socket to connect to the aerial in socket on the video recorder.
If your TV does not have a scart socket you can connect the scart lead to the scart socket on a video recorder and then use the normal method of watching videos to view the Freeview TV pictures (here you may need to press the PAUSE button on your video recorder to prevent it going back into standby-mode after a few minutes).
Simply connect the box to your TV, turn on the power and the auto channel-scan will immediately detect and install all available channels.
If the Freeview box has been previously used in a different location / with a different TV transmitter you may need to re-tune it. Press the menu button on the remote control, scroll through the menu to set-up. Follow on screen prompts.

My freeview needs retuned

If it is built in. Do the following.
Press the button on your tv remote that says TV/DTV.
Make sure it says DTV on the screen normally at the top corner of the screen.
Now with the Tv remote press the menu button. you should now see a menu appear go down to Auto Tune / Auto Store and press select or enter. T
his should now start searching through for you Freeview Channels. Dont be alarmed if you dont see many channel appear at the beginning of the scan as it normally goes past 75 % before they start filtering through.

If your box is a standalone then Just use the Freeview box remote and then press the menu button. go down to Install. this would then prompt if you would like to do a full search or add channels. I would do full search this will Delete all the channels previously installed and search from scratch.

I hope this sort out your Freeview

Freeview box

After scanning the box should save the channel automatically. If the box does not save the preset after scanning channels, then it is probably faulty.
Some box has a pinhole reset button at the back, if you have this reset button keep it pressed with a pencil for 10 seconds to reset the freeview box.
If it does not work, the nbox is probably faulty.

With freeview you only pay for few scrambled channels, the most of them are free and do not need any additional fee.

Freeview is not available in all areas, check that you have freeview in your location, and that aerial is well connected to the box, otherwise not finding channels is normal.

Try normal arial first.
If OK, try freeview box again.
Check what tuner card you have fitted in Device Manager and check specs on google. Can it receive satellite freeview?
May be new drivers - check Tuner card website for driver updates and latest info.
reply back with what card is fitted.

No channels can be detected have tried 2 Daewoo DS608P boxes connected to same telly but same thing happens. Signal strength seems fine boxes have been working fine for years.

I am the same. Not a sausage from my same model Daewoo freeview box today. Scans and re-scans and not a single channel to be detected.
