I bought bachmann spectrum 2-10-2 loco just 2 days back. Its front heels and back wheels gets derails very often. I have many other locomotives and they dont give any problem on same tracks but this loco doesnot work properly. Even at low speeds its derails causing short circuit sometimes. is there any solution for this problem? i use it with DCC command controller and on bachmann eztrack

Hope you got it fixed by now, but just in case. Call Bachmann and arrange to return it for repair, for small cost. They will set it up properly as when you remove drive wheels the wheels must be quartered and the drive rods set properly.

I did,and found them to be extremely helpful.
Here are some other ideas, if you wish to try them.
Take a piece of paper, not cardboard, but a heavier than normal weight, and cut pieces of it into shapes that will fit under the wheels of the loco and tender, and will cover the tracks
If you put a paper under the loco, and none under the tender, perhaps it is OK there, or, if you put paper under the tender, and none under the loco, perhaps it is OK there.
Try to isolate where exactly the short is.

check all track connectors(squeeze lose ones with a needle nosed pliers..check wire from transformer to the track..and during assembly, the track gets any dust on it, the wheels wont make proper contact for the engine to run..) as for the locomotive.. sometimes you can clean the motor brush comutator with a simple pencils' erasure by rotating the motor armature by hand(small as it is) to clean the pickups on this..it will better help to transferr the electric into the motor..sometimes on these track layouts, you need fine grit sandpaper to run across the top of the rails as the manufaturer puts a protective coating on these.. it wont carry power to your train..you can also use the backside of a butterknife drug around the layout a few times with the electric off.. it helps you feel any rough spots on the track/layout..

try cleaning your wheels and track,
then see if your locomotive will run.

Your best bet is to take your locomotive to a Lionel Service Center. All these parts and diagrams are available but some special tools are required.

Had the same problem. The loco would buzz, but no movement. Took the loco & controller to my local hobby shop for testing. Found out my loco was fine, but the controller had shorted out. Swapped it out & it's all good.

hit it with a bigger hammer!
