Uder device manager, locate network adapters, click on the plus or arrow sign beside it to drop down the list.
You should see there your wireless adapter.
If not, your laptop does not have a wifi adapter
If yes, you can exit out device manager.
There's no need to for that hpwireless assistant which makes things much more complicated.
Instead, click start, click connect to, it should automatically detect your router or any wifi network, highlight a network then click on connect.
By the way, you need to check if the physical wifi switch on the laptop is on.

Hope this helps...

I was able to connect to my HP Compaq Presario V2000 Laptop to my WiFi Network using NetGear. When I reconfigured the network I could connect to all other network like Dell Lptop , Nokia Smart Phone and HP...

Hi!

Your Compaq V2000 has an Intel Pro Wireless 2200 BG wireles adapter. (doesn't support N, but that's not the point I think)

If your new network configuration is based on WPA/WPA2 encyption, this adapter has some known problems to establish a connection. It works great with WEP, but not so well with WPA.
Sometimes the issue can be solved by installing the latest versions of drivers and software for the wireless adapter.
If it still doesn't work, a known workaround is to disable via device manager all other network adapters in the computer (ethernet adapter), leaving active only the Intel Pro 2200 wireless adapter.

Hope it helped,

Bogdan

If you're running a wireless network, make sure all computers on the network use the same network name, for instance "My network" Home Network etc. one can't say "MS HOME" and the computer you're using say "My Network"

NO WIRELESS NETWORK ADAPTER

I have just checked the specs of your laptop and it says that these come standard with a wireless network card.

What problem are you having in regards to wireless?

Some laptops have a switch (generally on the front or sides) that needs to be activated before the wireless card is "enabled" in the operating system. You will need to refer to the owners manual for the location of this switch.

Wireless network problem

Hi,
You can try deleting the wireless profile previously saved on you laptop and try to reconnect and make sure you got all your wireless settings and security with you { SSID, WEP or WPA/PSK}. If that doesnt work than try to access your router's page and change your wireless setting to OPEN Wireless and  for you to view your wireless connection and try to reconnect. If everything fails than you can try reconfigurig your router and reconnect each again for you to have your presario connected too. This wont be a prob at all . I can walk you through with it if you want to as i need more info re your pc and router setting.
Keep me posted.
Cheers
