IT SEEMS THIS COMPANY DOES NOT EXIST AFTER YOU PURCHASE THERE PRODUCTS. I RECOMMEND GETTING A DIFFERENT MODEL AVAILABLE OUT THERE AND DO NOT EVER PURCHASE ANY PRODUCTS FROM THIS COMPANY.

    i need update the map

  • TeddyHickox Jan 21, 2009

I totally agree, My maps are so outdated and the device is not that old also the device has already been sent back once and now it is doing the same thing. The problem is that it tells you to go one direction and then changes its mind as soon as you turn. It is a piece of junk and the company has terribel tech support

How do i update my Nuvi 255W garmin GPS

To update your nuvi, all you need to do is to connect your nuvi to an internet connected computer and the updates will show on the lower left of your computers screen, click on it and it will update it with the latest software version and maps.
You can also go to your nuvis website and search for latest updates. Just click on the map link and a list will pop up under the map link, select update maps if it is maps you want to update. It will ask you to choose your device from a list, after choosing your nuvi 255w then it will show you the latest maps for your gps, but you have to install its plug ins first.
That is how to update your gps.

MY MAPS HAVE GONE FROM MY SATNAV HOW DO I DOWNLOAD NEW ONES

The maps may just be unselected rather than gone. To select them press the spanner icon (Tools) then press Maps. At the bottom of the screen press Map Info and see if there's a map there. There should be a tick at the side of the map name. If there's not press the map name and the tick should appear. The map will then be selected and should be ok.
If you need to get a new map or map update connect your satnav to your computer. Go to www.garmin.com. If you have already registered your satnav click on myGarmin and then on myMaps. (Details on how to register are below) Your map should be shown there and if there's an update available click on GET UPDATE to download the updated map. If there's no update and you need to buy a new one click on Shop For More Maps and select the ones you want. Follow the prompts.

TO REGISTER YOUR SATNAV
Go to www.garmin.com and select your country. Click on myGarmin and then on Register Your Garmin Product. You'll be asked to create a username and password. Keep them safe as you'll need them anytime you want to update your maps.

Where can I find free Garmin Nuvi Map Updates?

Sorry, no free maps. I know I've tried. You either live with the old map or but the latest version.
I bought the life time maps updates and I'm glad I did.
I've updated my maps at least 6 times.
New maps are about $70.
Life time maps are about $99 (when I bought mine)
BUT FIRST make SURE you have the latest software in YOUR computer and in YOUR Garmin before you load any maps.
You can get that FREE at Garmin here:
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} To download the latest unit software visit Garmin website: www.garmin.com/webupdater
After installing WebUpdater once from the Garmin website, perform all future software updates from your computer. Simply connect your compatible Garmin device to your computer, then run WebUpdater from your computer's "Start Menu" by selecting "Start", "Programs", "Garmin", and finally "WebUpdater"
REMEMBER: It takes hours to do a complete a map update.
Unless you bought the Lifetime maps you may have to pay for current maps.

GARMIN 510 2009 MAPS

I'm quite sure you need to purchase the 2009 City Navigator SD card to update the maps. That what I did last year to get the 2008 City Navigator maps. You will need to leave the SD card in the unit to use the new maps though..

I haven't been able to determine whether it's possible to update the actual install map on the device. I'm guessing it's possible but would require a computer and an map update to write directly to the device. If I find steps to update the installed maps, I will post them here.
