Question about HP Officejet 7210 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

When trying to scan, 7210 doesn't see/recognize networked computers

BACKGROUND: The 7210 is on the same network as multiple computers, all of which are running Windows XP and all of which can print to the device. I just downloaded the mamma-jamma 450MB full feature device driver for networked connection directly from HP's web site, and the install seemed to go fine.

PROBLEM: When I try to scan, the LCD screen says "Select Computer" with a little right arrow. But pressing the right arrow doesn't do anything, and when I click the "OK" button it says "No scan options" and tells me I need to install device software.

Any suggestions?

Thanks. This is maddening, though, I can't find HP Director on my computer (no icon, not in start menu, not even in the "HP" directory under Program files) and can't find a way to download it. Seems like it's supposedly part of the driver package, but I downloaded/installed the driver earlier today yet HP Director is not on my system. When I installed the drivers it went through exactly the process documented at including the affirmative recognition of my 7210.

Any ideas on how to get HP Directory on my system? Now that you turned me on to that I see all kinds of problems you can fix once you take the first critical step of "Click the HP Director icon..." GAAHH!!!

From each computer, you need to run the HP Director. When opened, click on SETTINGS, then SCAN TO settings to configure. This way it will transfer data to the scanner so that when at the scanner, that computer will be in the list of places to send a scan job.

You may need to download the HP patch which is on the same page entitled: CRITICAL UPDATE TO RESOLVE AN ISSUE WITH HP DIRECTOR AFTER INSTALLING IE7.

    You can get it here:

But you should have an HP folder when you click START, PROGRAMS, HP. The fact that this folder is missing means the program didn't load properly.

The size of the file you need is over 450mb (496mb) so you may have downloaded the wrong file. But if you have IE7 on that machine, the above file may solve your problem. I had that issue one time but I had HP Director on my desktop, just wouldn't launch until I installed the patch. The fact that you don't even have the icon is troubling. Before doing anything else, uninstall the current HP drivers, reboot and try reinstalling. Make sure any firewalls are turned off. You can check by clicking START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL, SECURITY CENTER. If Firewall is enabled, click near the bottom where is says WINDOWS FIREWALL, and click on OFF, click OK to exit the screen.

Code error

If the Nokia 7210 says Code error means you entered the wrong code,It's Network Unlock code or security Unlock code?Network unlock code means you can have only 5 Unlocking tries ,if you missed means it get hard locked ,so cannot unlock using the unlock code, get the correct Unlock code from the site and Unlock from Network lock,You need to unlock from security or password lock means get the master reset code for Nokia 7210 at here and reset it.You can also try default code 12345 or 1234 or 0000 if not works means get the master reset code and reset it.

Can i share scanner across multiple computers?

Some network scanners have the ability to scan to PC's. I have the Brother MFC-465CN all-in-one ethernet network printer. This scanner lets me press scan and decide which PC to send the scanned image to.

If it is a USB scanner then I don't think this is possible.

Can't scan with mfc-7840 w, has worked fine for months, on laptop with xp, was working in another office for last 10days, came back to home office and it can't recognize device at all I can ping IP no...

I had a similar problem. I was able to print and scan for months and then all of a sudden could not scan anymore (from printer or through software interface). I then found out that the IP address for the scanner was not set properly. To fix this, goto control panel and scanner and cameras. Right click on the MFC7840W and select PROPERTIES. On the network setting tab, make sure that the IP address is the same as that on the MFC7840W.
