Have a Dayton Model #6K167, 230v, 34 A, 1740 RPM, 71/2HP. The Motor would just hum when turned on. Did some checking and found a wire lead off of one of the capacitors, But when I was tryng to connect the wire several other wires can off. I hook the wires up and bump the motor on. It ran but I smoked one of the capacitors. Not sure where they went. Need a wiring digiram showing how to connect capacitors. It has 2 running capacitors & 4 starting capacitors. Thanks Glen

Hi Valeantudor. Looked at site you sent me. Only it didn't show how to connect the Capacitors, The 2 running Capacitors

  • glenfo Feb 16, 2011

Hi, I need the wiring diagram that shows how the wire connection are made for the capacitors. There is 2 running caps, & 4 starter caps. The diagram that was on the site you sent didn't show this information. Glen

Hi, I got the info that was provided. But it does show how to hook up or wire the capacitors. As I said before. There is 2 Running capacitors & 4 Starting capicators. There is 4 leads that go to capacitors from motor. The drawing just show 2 capacitor. Are they series or parallel or series /parallel connection. Please let me know as I need to get the motor running. Glen

Glen,
We should be able to help you with your wiring issue but I will need one other piece of information off of the motor nameplate; the date code/derial number of manufacturers number. Depending on when it was made it will have one of these numbers which in turn identifies the age and therefore how it was connected at the factory. Once you have that information, or even better, send EVERYTHING on the nameplate either in an email or picture to:

[email protected]

It may take a little time to get the record from the tech department but we should get it.

Thanks,
John

Motor with no labels

3 phase motors that burn wire have a short in one of the phase wires that is allowing twice much current pass than is allowed. I would remove it and have a motor shop check it out.

I installed a Dayton 4m205j condenser fan motor. It comes on but turns the wrong way. I switched the wires and it still turns the wrong way.

From what I can find on the internet, there should be a plug very close to the motor body that can be reversed to reverse the rotation of the motor. It should be a small rubber plug on the wires leading into the motor.
Also, check inside the wiring compartment for a sketch or notes.

I got a dayton 2hp. electric motor model#2N982M it appears you can wire it for 110volts,220volts, or 440volts - need a wiring diagram mine partially worn off.

That motor is a three phase motor and will not run on 110 volts. It is also a high RPM motor with a lot of torque and MUST be mounted to a solid surface before it is powered up or it could rip your arm off as it flies across the room. If you have access to three phase power then you could power that motor but not with standard household electrical service.

Heres a link to some info for it

ITEM: Dayton universal motor model 8mo38A 10,000 rpm spec number 6540 1.7 amps HP 1/5, Volts 230. PROBLEM: Motor used in small appliance with short on bursts and much longer off time but many...

My engineering experience tells me that this is likely caused by sudden acceleration or deceleration of the motor. Not knowing the type of load the motor is driving I can only point you to look for things causing sudden load changes. I would be tempted to install a soft start circuit or inrush current limiter that accelerates the motor slower or possibly install a flywheel to reduce acceleration/deceleration torque pulses. As a final suggestion, I would present the problem to the manufacturer of the appliance and the motor.

Low rpm on blower motor

The 1350 RPM Speed is for 50HZ. The motor will only run at 1525 on 60 HZ.

Dayton Attic fan running backwards

First see if the switch has a reverse position. Sometimes you turn the fan assembly in the frame, sometimes you turn the whole frame around. Take the cover off the wiring compartment to see if there are instructions there. Also check on the name plate on the motor, there may be instructions there. Attic fans are usually engineered to blow out.
