Maybe try to reset the whole device (or is this not an option because there are files on there that you need?) I found a link to garmins official help page: How do master reset my Forerunner 410 405CX or 405 I hope that after resetting the device, it will work again.
Good luck!
do a proper reset like take the battery out if its optional then press the power button for 30 seconds without connecting the power,if that doent help then you need to reset the software to the factory setting thorugh the menu itself.
I can help you fix your Garmin Nuvi 200W. I am going to recommend a HARD RESET for you, to try and break the firmware update cycle you said you are locked into. Once you have successfully completed the WebUpdate, satellite acquisition will be vastly improved with the new system software.
There are three steps to take to get your Nuvi running like new:
Back up your Favorites (if your pc will still recognize it or you have a memory chip you can pop into a card reader).
I can help you fix the satellite problem with your Garmin Nuvi 265WT.
Poor satellite reception, loosing satellites, and taking a long time to acquire satellites are issues that have been addressed by Nuvi 265WT firmware updates.
There are three steps to take to get your Nuvi 265WT running better than new:
Hi Bob,
You need to do a complete reset by turning it on and at the same time press the bottom right hand corner of the screen this will reset it to factory condition. having done that when you switch it on again leave some where where it has a clear view of the sky and leave it for about 1/2 an hour. This should sort it out for you. Best of luck.
Question: Why won't my StreetPilot i-series device acquire satellites?
Same happened to me - try -->
Answer:
If your StreetPilot i-series unit is having a hard time acquiring satellites we would recommend ensuring that it currently has the most recent version of unit software and then performing a master reset. In order to update your unit to the current version of software you will need to use the Garmin WebUpdater. Here is a link to the page on our website that has the WebUpdater program and instructions on how to use it: http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp
Once your unit has the most up-to-date software, you may need to perform a master reset. To do this follow the steps below:
Start with the device turned off.
Press and hold the arrow button, wheel, and power button simultaneously.
Continue holding these buttons until you see the message, “Do you really want to erase all user data?”
Once this message appears, release all three buttons.
Select ‘Yes’
Note: A master reset will restore your unit to the factory defaults and will erase all of your favorites and recent selections.
Once you have completed these steps, please place your unit outside in an area where it will have a clear view of the sky. The unit may need 15-20 minutes to initially acquire satellites. Once your unit acquire satellites you may continue normal operation.

Try a re-load of the chipset driver. It is available from the Garmin website. I find that it occasionally becomes corrupt. You can check by entering the "Main Menu" then "Setup" then "System" then press Menu and choose "Software Version". If the "GPS SW Version" is 0.00 then a reload of the chipset driver will correct the problem.
This can be easily fixed....
I had the same problem, I returned first piece and exchanged for the second. Had the same problem with second and took back to Circuit city. The GPS guys took out 3rd one for me and had same problem. Then the manager came who has been using these for couple of years and tried to set the home location 3 times and it worked 3rd time. He did the same for the second returned piece and it also worked. He says since these pieces are programmed for Kansas we need to give 3-4 tried before the piece first 'locates' satellite and then acquires satellite. After the the piece just turned out to be awesome.
