Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

1 Answer

No Cold Air

I have a Duo Therm Penguin Rooftop A/C unit Model 600315-321 which is about 4 years old. I turned the unit on this year and no cold air comes out. It also is blowing extremely low that you can hardly feel it with your hand up to the unit. Can you tell me what might be wrong and what I can try to do to fix it myself?

Thanks,

Have you removed inside filters and cleaned them? have you gone up and removed the cover to see if fins are dirty, or perhaps wasps etc. Does fan only have one speed on thermostat. Does fan run faster on fan only operation? Is it tripping your breaker at all?

I may be abler to get you one and send it to you. but only if the unit is less than 10 years old or less. if over 10 years the cover may no longer be available.

Duo Therm rooftop A/C turns on then off within 5 minutes

Hello,

It does sound like it is low on refrigerant gas (R-22). Everything else makes sense. I cannot tell if your's has service ports, but that isn't really an issue. They make bolt on ports just in case they're ever needed, and install them a lot when servicing refrigerators. Any service shop can install them, if necessary.

I recommend going with a new one. Both the coleman and the carrier are excellent and a whole lot more efficient that the 16 year old dometic.

Don't panic, but I have a question about my 40 year old duo therm RV roof top AC. I know, it shouldn't be working, but it does. My problem is it will kick on, compressor starts to work and puts out cold...

When you say relay I'm assuming the contactor. Does it shut off again when you let go of the contacts (relay)? Most likely it's low on refrigerant and the low pressure switch is shutting it down.
