Re: battery and cd writer problem
The battery is worn out and will need replacing. As for the CD burner, many times, when the CD drive recognizes and reads, but won't burn, the burning end or board in the drive has gone out. You might also try a different burning software.

try removing the battery and just use plug power only if it boots normally then change the battery and the change the power supply unit as well I would just start with the power supply unit first then see if the battery charges up if not the battery is bad replace it. Now if the computer will not start with the battery removed then you have a power supply issue.
Change and replace it. Hope this helps. Also when computer lap top get hot they will shut down to protect the computer wait and let it cool down then try to restart your computer. If this does work and the lap top restarts normally get a fan cooler that is USB powered and the lap top sits on top of it. Also make sure the fan is running and is not stopped. Clean and dust it out once in awhile. I hope this assists you with your problem. John
You must let the battery cargar completemente maybe 4 o 5 horas if you are not using the computer (OFF) , and 12 a 13 horas if computer is ON. Don't leave it charged in the computer while computer is connected to the power socket, unless you also charging the battery. Before charging it a second time, make sure it is completely drained. Some manufacturers (Toshiba) recommend to cycle the battery (charge, discharge) 2 or 3 times before using it. Every month you should allow it to be drained.
the best thing to do is to get the help of a qualified technician(better go to a toshiba service centre) they will help you with this. try removing the battery after turning off the computer and removing the power supply.reinsert the battery and turn on th notebook. it should work fine. else contact the technician.
you should have a recovery CD which came with the laptop, which should restore it to it's original condition.
if you only have a windows install CD you can boot from this CD and perform a fresh install (deleting the existing partitions first) PLEASE remember to back up your data first as it will be impossible to restore if it is deleted in this way.
you will have to manually re-install all the software as well, if there is no basic recovery CD.
