TV randomly turns itself off and then comes right back on. Unfortunately it never does this during a commercial. Generally happens during a punchline or critical plot twist. WHY would it do this??

JVC picture turns into a single line in middle of screen.

This is caused due to random falure of vertical scan circuits. It generally is caused by dried out capacitors or bad driver IC. Unfortunately it will get worse. If you fail to turn the TV off quickly you will burn a permenant horizontal line on the tube. Trip to the repair shop I am afraid.

The television is randomly turning itself off during viewing and video game play

My initial concern would be the unit getting adequate air flow to prevent over heating. If the set is in an enclosure or even pushed against a wall this could be an issue. Also be sure the air intake for the fan is not blocked with dust which can build up over time. If the unit is turning off after running for a time I would look into this. Also the set likely has a temp indicator which would come on if the operating temperature is getting too high.

Xbox 360 Freezing during netflix and dvd playback

If you are using a HDMI connection, often the connection will be lost between your xbox and your tv. In my case I simply change to another channel or the other HDMI channel and then back and the secure HDMI connection will be restored.

Our TV shuts off by itself usually during commercials. We have to unplug it, plug it back in and turn it on manually ~ till next commercial. Seems to happen more on the cable channels ~ the main networks...

Hello,

Since commercials are louder volume-wise (especially with cable more than satellite), my first guess would be that you have a faulty part around the audio amplifier of the TV, and it loads the power supply or creates a high/low that tells the TV micro to turn off. Knowing what brand the TV is helps, but in any case, it probably needs to be referred to a TV repair shop for tracking the part(s) down.

I hope this helps you...

Channel changing by itself.

I will tell you that westinghouse is the worst company among other brands. If you have warranty, return it and buy a sony or panasonic with a little extra money. It will help you later from buying another TV that is also as crappy as westinghouse's.

Commercial skip/blackouts

Sounds like you're blessed to have a tv like that! Seriously: Some sets have settings that will cut down the sound during a commercial. Haveyou looked at your owner's manual? This tv may have setting to cut out the picture also when commercials come on. From a technical view point generally commercials have stronger signals than regular programming. This may be overloading your set. If this is the case, then you need to have it checked by good technician. A poorly operating power supply (not regulating properly) could possibly cause a problem like this. Also automatic gain control circuits could be not working properly. Stargazer
