Question about JVC Everio GZ-HD7 Camcorder

Im getting a Hard Disk error

Im not sure what's the problem but, that damn thing hangs up and shows that disk is full. In the middle of copying files to my PC.
I need to play with the buttons(on/off menu) a lot to get it back to show be the harddrive.
this camera was too pricey to be doing this to me.

Could your disk be full? Or maybe fragmented? Just wondering because you're right, the camera shouldn't be doing that. If you go to >start>my computer it will show you the disk drives. Right click on your drive and go to properties. It will show your disk usage.

If your drive is fragmented too much go to >programs>accessories>system tools>defrag and do a defrag. then restart your computer.

I kind of think it might not be the camera but try this and see.

Ill try to be a little clearer
Disk is not full, i never wait till theend to unload my videos. I try to derfagment it every time I unload my videos.
This problem happened to me twice, luckly was able to recover.
I plug the camera to the USB port, computer sees it. I start copying files to my comp using the camera software, than everything freezes. I unplug the camera switch to the recording mode and it showes me "disk full error" , "hard disk error". At that time the computer stops seeing the camera.
I spend good half hour messing with it, turning it on and off and playing with buttons. After a while I get it to work and my recordings show up again.
I suspect a conflict with the software or possibly hard disk is over heating.
So far I was able to live with this problem.
Cheers

Camcorder when recording displays, hard disk error occurred and does not record.

Possible that you will need to format off the hard disc and clean off all the files present. The camcorder seems to hang up as there is some errors occurs on the hard disc. If this wont solve it is possible that some sectors in the hard disc can be faulty.

Hi,
It seems problem with hard disk that need to be formatted, please make sure you have copied/ transferred recorded files in computer or format HD will delete every thing on HD.
Press Menu button on lcd screen and select settings then select HD and select Format, it will take little time to format hard disk.

To regain record time we are told to re-format the flip video ult

I had the same problem so I tried the thing on the website and it didn't work so I looked it up on Youtube and someone figured out how to do it. I tried it and I got all 60 minutes back. You should try this, it probably works.
PS instead of 5 nines it's 6 nines.

Downloading my camera

Did you record on a disk or on tape? When you purchased this product, were you able to download the software for this camera? Did it come with a USB cord?

If you are using a disk, just take the disk out and put it into the computer and look for that drive thru the "My Computer" icon.. From here it lists all the places that you can connect items to your computer along with the hard drives. It will usually show up in a slot that is labeled with a letter higher than F.

Once you find this open it and it should show your files, then you can select the files to be copied or moved to a file on your hard drive, i.e. My Photo's.

If you video taped and you want to download the images, you have to make sure that you have installed the software that came with the camera, and then attach the USB cord, and the computer will recognize it and then you can go from there..

I would recommend making sure the disc being used is finalised first to make sure this helps to stop the issue.

Filesize query

It's probably not out of line. A one hour minDV holds about 13.5 gigs. AVI files need a LOT of space. Yes, it will be compressed before it goes to DVD, but compression (also called rendering) usually isn't done during the capture process. How much hard drive space do you have? You probably need more.
