Question about Magellan RoadMate 800 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Battery charge cord

The cord that plugs into the car battery receptacle will not work properly. When first plugged into the car receptacle the green light comes on for a few seconds then goes out and will not power or charge the GPS. It has worked fine since we have had it, but just suddenly stopped working. I checked the fuse and it is OK. Do you know what could be the problem?
Thanks, Ron

Take a look at the plastic fitting where the cable goes into the GPS. Ours broke which caused the same problem. Easier to buy another one used on ebay than try to get it fixed. Magellan started off as a great company with a fantastic product but I think the competition has eclipsed them. Too bad really.

I have mio s600 and during the travel the car charger has stopped working, so the navigation automatically started to use it's one battery. After I pulled out the charger, and sticked it in again,

If you are using the lighter plug for charging it may have a fuse inside the plug itself the plugs into the lighter socket,,,,,look for a fuse there or if have a volt meter check for voltage reaching the unit when plugged that way If voltage is good to the unit from the car source the battery may be bad, either not getting a voltage for charging or battery not holding a charge.

Have not used my Garmin since January 2011. Sitting on shelf. Plugged in to my car charger and would not turn on. Would this mean it needs charged?

After three months, I'm sure the internal battery needs to be charged. But even so, it should work when plugged into the car charger. The first thing you should do is check that the charger cord is connected properly at both ends. Mine has a green LED on the plug. If yours does, make sure that light goes on. Try jiggling the connectors at each end of the power cord. If it still doesn't work, the next thing to try is replacing the power cord. (Maybe you can borrow a power cord from a friend). If the power cord isn't the problem, I'm afraid the problem is in the Garmin itself. Good luck.

My new Tom Tom will not start past the first screen that shows the name Tom Tom.....how do I get it to operate properly. If I depress the start button for about 14 seconds it goes to a green screen or...

It is likely that your battery is low or nearly-dead, particularly if you haven't used your GPS for a while and it has not been plugged in (to be kept charged). That's why it doesn't start (even if it is plugged in when you're trying to start it up again now). Don't try to repeat the startup (too often) as it will mess up your sw / data (when your battery is low or half dead) You'll want to plug it in (e.g. using your USB or wall adapter) for up to 24 hours or so, to charge the battery. Then start it up and keep it plugged in until your battery is fully charged.

I neglected to plug in the cord to my cigarette lighter and the charge ran down to 0.I am on a trip and did not bring the charging cord. i tried plugging into lighter in car but it stays on for a feww...

leave it switched off and plugged in.

This would give it chance to actually charge as using it from dead with it plugged in does not always allow some GPS to charge properly.

You neglected to say which brand so its hard to give a 100% answer.

Most GPS should have enough charge withing 4 hours but from dead some older units require anywhere up to 18 hours according to some of the manuals i have laying around

C330 will not power up when plugged into power receptacle in car

First, check the car's power receptacle by plugging in another device that definitely works (or take your gps to another car). Cars generally have a fuse associated with the receptacle that can blow. The second most likely problem is that the internal battery inside the c330 has died. This is especially likely if the unit is old (more than 1 year) and if you live in a climate with extreme heat or cold (which reduces battery life). This video shows how to replace the battery:
The company that produced the video sells a kit which includes the battery and tools necessary to replace the battery yourself. See: http://www.newpower99.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=GARMIN+STREETPILOT+C330&Show=ExtInfo I swapped the battery of my brother's dying GPS using the aforementioned kit and all went well. His Garmin is back up and running smoothly.
Hope this helps.

My garmin won't charge

Hello there:
There are a couple of reasons that these units do not charge the first is pretty obvious is to check the power cord tjo ensure that it is working properly.
Next remove the power cord and then remove the battery
now get a qtip and some rubbing alcohol and clean all the areas that the battery contacts and the battery it'self and inspect the terminals that the battery connects to and see if there is any visible damage.
now check te place where the power cord is plugged into the unit and see if the part is loose if so i t will need to be repaired ok once all of this has been done
put the battery back in the device nad plug it in and try to turn it on and see if it will now charge.
If not then you wil have to have the unit service because of a faulty part on the mainboard for the gps ok?
Hope this has been very helpful for you.
Best regards Michael

Garmin c340 went black and can't get it working

The battery was completely dead. I must not have had the cord plugged in to my lighter, or maybe it wasn't sitting properly on the cradle, and it was running on battery power. I found that when I charged it by the computer, it was ok. It is working with no problems, now.

Battery low

This may seem like a dumb question, but have you tested the lighter socket to see if it's working? If the TomTom is plugged in, you shouldn't get a low battery warning.
