Change the BIOS to boot from a CD ROM as it seems ur hard disk is corrupted.
try to partition and format the disk and install the new OS.

  • Until the hard disk is set up, boot from a floppy disk/CD ROM instead of the hard disk to start the system.
  • For a new hard disk, remember to partition and format the hard disk.
  • If this type of error is encountered in an existing system, there is a good chance that the disk has become corrupted somehow.

What can I do to reboot new hard drive

So a new drive will of course, have nothing on it at all. Lets just say you are installing windows 7. With the windows 7 disk in the optic drive as the power is turned on - check for boot options at start up or hit your Del key to get in to the bios. Search bios for boot priorities - Set optical CD/DVD drive as primary (first boot) Make sure you can boot to the windows disk.. Once it sees the disk in the drive - follow the directions and the disk with start the install process. AFTER your windows os has loaded, you may need to find orphan drivers that did not load with the windows disk. You'll have to search Dell.com for proper drivers. Oh, huge - If the computer is running SATA 1 - Pentium 4 to first generation Core 2. You may need to hit your F4 key to add other drivers at the very beginning of the windows install.
The drivers most the time, show as a raid driver, but this is needed or your system will never install - The Hard drive will never be found.

Hope this helps.
Have a great night..

Did you make any changes to the computer prior to the issue?

This issue may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true:
a) The basic input/output system (BIOS) does not detect the hard disk.
b) The hard disk is damaged.
c) Sector 0 of the physical hard disk drive has an incorrect or malformed master boot record (MBR).
Note: Some third-party programs or disk corruption can damage an MBR.
d) An incompatible partition is marked as Active.
e) A partition that contains the MBR is no longer active.
Method 1
I would suggest that you update the basic input/output system (BIOS) to the latest version by contacting the motherboard or computer manufacturer and check if it works.
Important: Modifying BIOS/complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

Method 2
If the above step fails then I would suggest that you perform startup repair on the computer and check if it works.

Hard drive activity LED indicator is red flashing , hp 4515s doesnt work

Blinking usually indicates activity as whereby some form of startup action is prompting the drive to boot. Failure to boot means the operating system boot sector is not starting and needs reinstallation of the OS.

Lights but no boot

Are you using a desktop or laptop. Is OS already installed on the system?
Start your computer and press F2 key while booting and before the logo appears.
Check for the boot menu, and see whether your first boot device is your hard disk of the system or not.
If not then do that and in case of desktop if you have more than two hard drive just check whether the first boot device is your that hard drive on which the OS is installed or not.
I guess, it will resolve the problem. For further assistance, you can avail our technical support by visiting our website: http://www.vtechsquad.com.

I installed windows 7 on my lenovo g460. After installation It cannot boot from harddisk. The LED light of HDD is turn on when pc starts and as soon as it comes to boot device selection it becomes off.

First reseat the hard drive. Next make sure you have no USB or ESATA devices connected to the laptop as the system could be trying to boot from one of them. Another possibility is that the hard drive could have failed. (when you install an OS you put the hard drive through a lot more stress than you would during normal use. If the drive was on the verg of failing that could have pushed it over the edge). There are built in hard drive diagnostics that you can run. Consult your owners manual or the Lenovo support site for a how-to guide.

No boot sector on hard drive

FIXBOOT writes the "boot sector" to the specified partition.
FIXMBR repairs or replaces the master boot record of the disk.

You will also want to ensure that your partition is active, because Ghost will not make a partition active unless you do a sector-by-sector backup and complete restore.

Here's what to do...

Boot from the XP / 2000 CDROM and allow the setup to begin. Once the beginning files are copied, you will be asked to Install Windows or use the Recovery Console. Please choose "r" here, to run the recovery console.

You will now type in the following commands when the prompt appears:

chkdsk /f
* This will repair any obvious file system damage, which could complicate things.

diskpart
* This will run the XP disk partition utility. We will be checking to see if your partition looks OK. If you see your partition, and the information diskpart provides appears correct, then that's a good thing. :)

Press [ESC] to exit Diskpart, when everything looks peachy.

fixboot
* We'll write a new boot sector, so the computer knows how to boot the computer

fixmbr
* We'll write a new boot record, so the computer knows how to boot Windows

You should be taken care of. If it still does not work, you may need to delete your partition(s) using diskpart, then recreate the partition(s) (using diskpart, again).

I cant identify the prolem

It looks like you may have a boot sector virus. A boot sector virus is one that infects the first sector, i.e. the boot sector, of a floppy disk or hard drive. Boot sector viruses can also infect the MBR. All disks and hard drives are divided into small sectors. The first sector is called the boot sector and contains the Master Boot Record (MBR). The MBR contains the information concerning the location of partitions on the drive and reading of the bootable operating system partition.

When disinfecting a boot sector virus, the system should always be booted from a known clean system disk. On a DOS-based PC, a bootable system disk can be created on a clean system running the exact same version of DOS as the infected PC. From a DOS prompt, type:
    SYS C:\ A:\
and press enter. This will copy the system files from the local hard drive (C:\) to the floppy drive (A:\).
If the disk has not been formatted, the use of FORMAT /S will format the disk and transfer the necessary system files. On Windows 3.1x systems, the disk should be created as described above for DOS-based PC's. On Windows 95/98/NT systems, click Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs and choose the Startup Disk tab. Then click on "Create Disk". Windows 2000 users should insert the Windows 2000 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, click Start | Run and type the name of the drive followed by bootdisk\makeboot a: and then click OK. For example:
    d:\bootdisk\makeboot a:
Follow the screen prompts to finish creating the bootable system disk. In all cases, after the creation of the bootable system disk, the disk should be write protected to avoid infection.

Once the OS loads, run your anti-virus software and it should clean the virus.

Should this not help, I'm afraid the only other alternative would be to reformat the HDD and reinstall XP again from a bootable disc.

Hope that helps..
