Printing envelopes Have HP Photosmart 3210 all in one with HP hard drive and Vista windows. When trying to print #6 envelopes from Microsoft Word using main tray of printer ( with envelope loaded according to direction) I get message that says paper size or type in incorrect. I am able to print #10 envelopes with no problem.

Also cannot print envelopes that are 4 3/8 x 5 3/4 or any other size.

  • cecpru67 Aug 17, 2008

I changed the print settings to reflect size of envelope as well as the page set us size. The envelope will print but the address is too far to the left of the envelope. It is not centered.

  • cecpru67 Aug 17, 2008

My "paper size" choice does not include "plain paper" Choices are the size of the paper in inches, cm's etc

  • cecpru67 Aug 17, 2008

see my last comment regarding not being able to find a "setting" for "plain paper

  • cecpru67 Aug 22, 2008

I think I finally got my problem sovled but not by the suggestions you had. I had to set it for a #10 envelope and then change the setting for the distance the address should be from the left side of the envelope. This worked for the #6 envelope as well as the invitation size envelopes

HI,

Try this one.Make sure the HP paper size setting needs to be "plain paper," not "automatic.

Thank you Priya! I had tried everything I could think of to print a #10 envelope. It kept coming up with the wrong paper size complaint. Upon reading your post, I changed to 'plain paper', printed another envelope and Voila, it worked. After that success, I then went back and returned the paper to 'Automatic' and it worked alright. Just another instance of my computer trying to screw me up.

    Once again, Thank you

Try to use an envelope printing software instead, to make it easier for you now and everytime you need to print on an envelope.

You need to adjust the paper size (in page - setup, and perhaps also in your print options). I think your envelope is smaller than the smallest auto-option (at least smaller than the smallest in my version of Word and for my printer) so you may need to set the size by hand.

Then you just need to practice - once you have the paper size set up on your Word file, you will see a page (print view) that will look like your envelope. You can then adjust the margins to place the address where you want it to go. It may take you a couple of tries to get it just right - if you don't have envelopes to waste, cut out a piece of paper the size of the envelope and run that through the printer instead.

Remember that you may have to set the paper size twice - once in page setup and once in the print options. If you don't get both set correctly the printer may be confused

Hope that helps.........

Go to Printers and Faxes
Right click your default printer and Properties
Look for paper type settings and adjust the size of envelope.

Another thing is adjust the shutter/slider on the paper tray to match the size of your envelop

Can't address envelopes using Microsoft Word 2007 & Windows 7

Excellent question. Wish I had the answer. I have the same problem with the MFC-7440N. I hook up my old HL 1240 and it prints them fine, so I now use two printers - one for envelopes and one for normal printing. I contacted Brothers and was told that it was not the printer, but the Application. If so, then why does my old Brothers printer work? They do not have the answer.

If that's the case the best way to resolve this is to download the printer software and use that in installing the printer to your Vista computer, you can download the printer software from this link.

Printing envelopes

You may have to go into the printer properties and change the size in the paper size drop down list, Your printer thinks that you are trying to print the envelopes on standard size sheet of paper, if you change that to the 6x9 in the printer properties it should work for you now, If it don't just write back here and we will try something else. Printer Error When Printing Envelopes

I had the same problem with my 7260 and I finally changed the paper type from automatic to plain paper. Go to either Properties or Preferences in your printer set up window. Somehow this turns off some sort of sensor. It might work for you, too. To the person who is using the Hallmark program, that is where I first encountered the problem, I then tried to print an envelope from Word and the same error message came up. I found this solution online from someone using a three in one printer/fax/copier so I tried it and it worked for me, too! I hope this helps......
