Your calculator is in scientific mode. When you start it up it probably displays DEG SCI.

You got to this mode by pressing the MODE key 3 times and choosing option 2. You can change this by pressing the MODE key 3 times again. which gives you the three choices:

1: **FIX** 2: **SCI** (The mode you're in) and 3: **NORM** (for normal mode)

Choose 3 and you are all set!

In table Mode you can enter the formula for a function and generate a table of values. For a 991ES Plus you can enter two functions. However if you change MODE everything will be erased.

In EQN (equation) there is a certain number of built in formula types you can choose. You will be asked for the coefficients which will be used to solve the equation selected. However if you change MODE your lose what you entered.**So basically you cannot save formulas to use as a memory aid **(if that is what your intention is.) Sorry.

I am not sure what you want because the mathIO mode IS THE ONE THAT DISPLAYS results as fractions.

You have two display modes: MthIO (with fractions, radicals) and LineIO (with decimals). Which one do you want?

To set MthIO press [Shift][MODE][1:MthIO]

To set LineIO, press [SHIFT][MODE][2:LineIO]

Concerning the scientific display mode.

Decimal numbers can be displayed in various formats, Fixed,Scientific, and Normal. If you do not want scientific display of results, just set the mode to Fix(ed) and specify the number of decimal digits. However if a number to be displayed (a result) is too small or too large IT WILL BE DISPLAYED in scientific format regardless of the mode you selected.

Press SHIFT MATH 2 to switch to the LineIO mode. You won't see fractions then. However, if magnitude of the number is too large or too small, the calculator will switch to scientific notation in order to fit into the display.

Press [SHIFT][MODE][6:FIX]. You are then prompted to enter a number between 0 and 9. The number you enter fixes the number of decimal digits your results will have. If you press 0 all numbers will be rounded. Setting two or three decimal digits should be reasonable for most situations.

Hi,

The calculator has two Input/Output modes: MthIO and LineIO. Since I do not know exactly what you mean by "basic math" mode or "basic form" I must summarize some properties of each mode so that you can recognize your "basic math" mode.

To set the LineIO as the default, you press the key sequence: [SHIFT][MODE] (SETUP) and select [2:LineIO].

Hope it helps.

Thank you for rating the solution.

- In MthIO, you have access to the multistory templates to enter fractions with a horizontal fraction bar etc. the exponents for the powers are raised above the main line, etc.
- In LineIO, what you enter in calculator is all on the same line, fraction and radical results are displayed as decimal numbers, etc.

To set the LineIO as the default, you press the key sequence: [SHIFT][MODE] (SETUP) and select [2:LineIO].

Hope it helps.

Hello,

Yes it does. All scientific calculators do logs, power, roots, exponential, trigonometric functions. Most do also hyperbolic and inverse hyperbolic functions.

Hope it helps.

The y^x button is right next to the x^2 button. It is labled with an x raised to a square box (which I will write as x^box). Thus, if you enter (for example)

2 x^box 5 = 32

2 x^box 5 = 32
