Question about Vizio VX32L Television

Vizio VX32L No Display and Can't Power Off

We turned the TV off last night and when we tried to turn it back on, we got a blank blue screen. The TV also won't power off by remote or by pressing the power button on the TV manually. The only way to turn it off is to unplug it. We've checked the connection, tried pressing the input button...nothing! Please help.

the tv screen will not turn on but the indicator light is on. it will also not turn off unless you unplug it. if i unplug it and turn it back on, it may or may not turn on. once it is on it runs fine. but it takes about 6-10 restarts to do this. i also called vizio and they could not help, refused to. as far as i care they're scum.

power turns on and all i get is a black screen. i can not turn off tv after power is on . i have to unplug the tv. wtf.

  • nerio Apr 15, 2009

I have the same problem. The TV will come turn on, flicker and then show a black screen and nothing else. I can't do anything else afterward.

When I select the source (HDMI, for example) and click ok with the remote, it just locks up and nothing happens. I tried the reset factory settings but that doesn't work either. Tried another remote, tried the buttons on the tv - same result. It all started when I changed input to Cable and then could get it back to HDMI.

Old messages and bcipollina is gonna get to read this resonse twice; sorry-
If it just fails to turn on or ignores the remote, the main power supply is probably at fault and without some technical background and a couple of test instruments, you will not be able to do the repair yourself.
What you can do though is; unplug the set, let it stand overnight or at least several hours, remove the back panel and look for a separate board with mostly larger components on it; it will have a ferrite core transformer on it and several larger capacitors which are cylindrical and mounted vertically to the board.

Before touching anything inside, especially on that board, allow several hours to be safe since the larger capacitors can hold a painful voltage charge for some hours.

If you see signs of overheating such as discoloration of the board material, it may not be repairable but if you can find a part number on the board, you might be able to buy the power supply and install it yourself.
If there are no signs of heat damage to the board, there may be companies offering to repair it as a subassembly instead of repairing the whole set which could be much more expensive.
If you choose to replace or have it done, the power supply still may not be at fault since most are capable of switching on and off if a downstream problem is causing an overload.

BTW, from what I have read about Vizio, I think they are close relatives to iLo which was also sold by Wal-Mart.
Quality control anyone?

When i turn the tv on shows the vizio logo only and a blank blue screen and i am unable to turn the set off, what part is faulty...km

I had the same problem after having a Vizio for 2 and a half years. I left the room for a minute, i came back and the screen went black. There was still power to the unit and you could see that the back light was working, just no picture, no sound, and you couldn't use any of the buttons. The only way to turn it off was to unplug it. It would then start up, with the Vizio logo going from orange to white, and then do the same thing all over, no pic or sound.

HOW I FIXED MINE:Look through the back vents for a white light to make sure the backlight still works. I ordered a new "main PCB" from tigerdirectparts.com (you can also use searspartsdirect.com). This is the circuit board with all of the inputs on it (hdmi, cable, etc.) I opened it up, disconnected the old one, put in a new one and now it works fine. I used both serial numbers on the board to search for it online. It cost me $144 to do it, but that's better than $450 for a new TV. My tv is the vx32l hdtv10a. I hope that helps.

For me the part number was either (depending on the vendor) : 0171 2272 2174 or it was 3632 0212 0150. Check your circuit and see if any of those numbers match up.

For the cheap guy like me who will probably do more harm than good:
Also check for the F3 Fuse on that same main input board. It is located in the upper right corner. Hard wired fuses; very small. You will see F1-F4 (F4 is empty). You can solder a replacement fuse right over it. I would recommend piggybacking the fuse with a fuse you can replace. Will need the holder and a new fuse. 6 bucks.
Doesn't solve problem, but I can go another 2 1/2 years and the wife won't blame me for screwing up the TV in the first place.

Vizio model VX32L TV has no picture

80% of TVs are having this same problem in different brands.
I'm sure Carlos meant well. If you took it to someone to have it fixed, then yes, it would be cheaper to by a new TV. ( Labor + Part )

But, if you can repair your TV yourself for less than a $100 vs buying a new TV for over $450, would it be worth it? ( Part alone )
If you or someone you know can replace a whole ciruit board, then it can be fixed.
Here's a web site to get the replacement board:
http://www.shopjimmy.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=vx32l+back+light

You'll just need to find the right one by looking at yours. Your backlight board will have letters & numbers on it for a board model#. It should be easy to find one and replace it.

It sound like the main board problem. Replace the main board will fix it. By the way, if you purchased the TV from Costco then the TV is still under warranty.

Sounds like the unit is in some sort of shutdown. It's hard to pinpoint the issue without knowing the make/model of the unit.
