You may need expansion tank, as water heats ether may not be enough space for water to expand as heated. perhaps a different plumber or company.

New tankless bosch unit, luke warm h20, gas line 1 inch direct to tankless, gas company came and gas psi ok. Plumber said we can not adjust the gas pressure above 5.5 inches of water at the meter. hel

1) Add tempering tank to preheat incoming cold water.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Tempering-tank.html

2) Read product manual or call Bosch to make sure unit works with pre-heated incoming water. Some incoming water sensors will not trigger combustion is incoming water exceeds certain limit.

2a) Read product manual for required yearly/monthy maintenance.
Train wife to delime tankless yearly.

3) Install bigger gas meter.

4) Solve entire moneypit problem today for $325
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-install-gas-water-heater.html

5) Don't install tankless unless you have a lot of money and time for headaches.
Don't believe promotional literature. Tankless promotion is BS for average do-it-yourself folks who want to save a buck on water heating. Estimated yearly saving of $100 means Tankless do not save money long term. All costs are energy: Purchase price and installation negates several years saving up front. One repair will negate another 5-8 years energy savings. By then you need new unit.

What Atwood water heater models will replace model GCH6A-9E?

Any 6 gal will fit in same cut-out (hole) . 12-5/8" H x 16-1/4" W x 17-5/8 deep. In order to move up to a 10 gal, you need to be able to cut hole a little bigger. 15-3/4" H x 16-1/4" W x 20-5/8" deep. Usually your depth will allow , and width is same, just a matter of whether you have room to make height bigger.

Make a electric water heater elements come on at same time

1) You want simultaneous operation.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-water-heater-thermostats.html#simultaneous

2) Installation REQUIRES bigger circuit breaker and bigger wire.
Or 2 circuit breakers and 2 wires
Or change both elements to 2000 watt.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Color-codewire.html

3) MUST add ECO-protected thermostat to lower part of tank.

4) Warranty will be void.

5) If tank is rusted, the added heat and expansion could hasten rupture.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Replace-anode-rod.html

6) As general rule, the health department will not allow this tank conversion for restaurant code to meet dish washing consumption unless manufacturer certifies tank.
But manufacturer will not certify ordinary residential water heater for commercial simultaneous application. Commercial simultaneous tanks can cost 2-4 thousand so they can meet restaurant code and deliver sustained high temperatures for washing dishes.

6) Also consider Hatco booster heater for commercial dish washing.
This type heater has 2 sets of non-simultaneous elements to heat large tank of hot water.

A very old rheem fury water heater i assume it's just worn out but because of a space problem i can't go wider than the 15 inch diameter it has.

16" diameter water heaters could work if you cut away the metal and insulation off of 1 side of the water heater. The actual tank inside the shell is smaller than outside diameter.

American gas water heaters shows a 30gal 16"
model BFG61-30T30-3NOV
http://www.americanwaterheater.com/products/pdf/NRGSS00107.pdf

AO Smith has 16" Promax 30 gallon gas
Model GCV30

ELECTRIC 6 gallon point of use

You can get a tankless water heater if you have the additional money and a water filtration and softener system and don't mind expensive repairs if you install it yourself.
