Question about Air Conditioners

1 Answer

My motion Broan fans model MS130 seem to have malfunctioning Motion sensors. We have tried to clean them with a dry rag as the spec. sheets indicate. It worked a couple of times and now they won't come on. It seems to help with some of them to get closer and wave your hands around under them. These are used in an intense,busy commercial setting. Air unit is freezing over

Check air filter, see if fan is running, check condenser coil for dirt build up. If its dirty shut power off and take top off unit so you can spray it with a garden hose. Use an up and down motion to clean the coil. Don't use too much pressure or you will damage the fins. If that doesn't work it may need charged.

Plenum seems to be heating up but blower fan cuts out before it can blow heat through the house

Probably a bad fan/limit. The way it works is the heat comes on first then as the air gets warmer the bi-metal twist around on the fan limit and at around 110f the fan kicks in. If the fan don't kick on then the limit kills the heat so the furnace don't get too hot.
Newer furnaces use a computer board to drive the fan with a timing sequence.

Of course it could be something very simple such as a contaminated flame sensor. If your furnace if one of them fancy new fangled machines which use a draft inducer fan the control may not be sensing ignition and auto cycling on and off. if that is the case get a dry brillo pad and remove the sensor. Give it a good clean and re install it then retry:

According to recent test data, an automobile travels 0.250 mi in 19.9 s, starting from rest. The same car, when braking from 60.0 mi/h on dry pavement, stops in 146 ft. Assume constant acceleration in each...

First part: start from rest, this means V0=0, d0=0
The motion equation
d=(1/2)*a*t^2+V0*t+d0
simplifies to
d=(1/2)*a*t^2

With d=0.25 mile or 0.25x1600m or 400m (because 1 mile=1600m) and t=19.9s
d=(1/2)*a*t^2
or
a=2*d/t^2
a=2*400/19.9^2
a=2 m/s2

Second part: Come to a stop.
For constant acceleration from start or decelaration to stop, use this formula
v^2=2*a*d
or
a=v^2/(2*d)
a>0 for acceleration and a
Substituting v=60 mi/h or 60*1600/3600 m/s or 26.67 m/s (because 1 mile=1600m and 1hour=3600 sec)
and d=146 ft or 146/3.3 m or 44.24m (because 1 foot = 1/3.3 m),
we have
a=-26.67^2/(2*44.24)
a=-8 m/s2 (deceleration, a

Because v=at, the time it will take to stop is
t=v/a
t=44.24/8
t=5.5 s.themobilian_4.gif

The unit is freezing up. i have an outside unit and i'm trying to pull heat.

That indicates one of three things.

1) Lack of airflow
2) Improper refrigerant charge
3) defrost malfunction

1) Make sure the outdoor coil is clean, and the fan is operating properly at the right speed.

2) IF you are certified, check the refrigerant level.

3) If the unit simply will not go into defrost at all, then the sensor or the defrost board is bad. If it goes into defrost too infrequently, the timing should be adjusted. If it goers into defrost repeatedly and quite often, and the ice build up is simply more than the defrost cycle can handle, look to problems 1 and 2.

check and clean/replace filter with unit off and[ the coil ]dry the finned looking metal behind filter carefully vacuum dont hit metal fins bend easy and will block air after vacuum check fan for proper movement not binding or blocked [birds nests ]using a spray bottle with water and a little mild cleaner spray fins in a downward motion turn unit on letting solution get pulled across coil turn off unit replace filter and run system should feel a difference dirty filters and coils cause a lot of units to fail

My outside air conditioner fan is not turning, but when I push the reset button it runs for a while and begins cooling? Then it stops turning and gets hot inside again? What could be the deal?? It was 112...

if the button your pushing is in the unit outside it is a manual reset for high head pressure this cuts off the unit to protect the compressor,you need to clean the coil .turn the unit off and gently push water through the coil in an up and down motion till water comes out clean see if that helps
