Hi
You I think are in the setup menu to adjust the image.
It display grids to adjust the focus and aspect ratio.
If you goto the "SETUP" and "Pattern" menu & then "GRID"
You can turn it off.

My rear defrost will not work but the light works, whats the problem

Visually inspect the heating grid attached to the inside of the rear window for breaks in the horizontal lines. Any break in the filaments in the grid will cause a partial failure of the defroster, leaving a portion of the window fogged or obscured.

  • 2 Use a test light or voltmeter to detect breaks in the filaments that aren't visible to the ***** eye. Touch one lead of the light or voltmeter to a grounded metal part of the car and the other lead to a spot on the heating grid. If the light doesn't light or the voltmeter doesn't register a reading, that indicates a break in the filament.
  • 3 Place a piece of tape on each side of the break. Align one piece just above the filament, the other piece just below it, leaving a thin space through which the filament passes.
  • 4 Apply the filament repair liquid with its applicator onto each break you've identified. Be sure to thoroughly cover the broken spot. Allow the repair to fully cure per the instructions on the bottle, then carefully remove the pieces of tape so they don't rip the filament repair.
  • 5 Inspect the the vertical lines on the heating grid if you've discovered that the entire heating grid fails to work. Any break in the vertical lines will cause complete grid failure. These can be can be repaired in the same way as the horizontal lines. Check to ensure that the metal power tabs on each side of the grid are securely fastened to the vertical lines, as a break here will also prevent the entire grid from heating.
  • 6 Reattach the metal power tabs to the heating grid as needed by removing the tab from its connector and repairing it using the epoxy found in the heating tab repair kit. Be sure to allow the full curing time indicated on the kit before reinserting the tab into the connector to ensure that the circuit isn't broken.
  • 7 Check the power switch and wiring to the rear window defogger if there are no breaks in the heating grid and both of the metal power tabs are securely connected to the grid. Replace the switch and/or wiring as necessary.

    How i adjust horizontal size and vertical size

    To answer your concern, all you have to do is to change the setting of your aspect ratio on your TV.

    Here is my suggested way to procede:


    1. Apply 1080i signal, which should produce an oversized HD image on ColorStream1or 2.
    2. Select an HD channel that is broadcasting standard 4:3 image, not wide screen.
    3. Switch to the Service Mode ( Please refer to the above links). In the Service mode, press channel up/down to find the Adjustment parameters needed for the following steps.

    4. Adjust HIT with volume up/down control for the image height to 22.5 inches.

    6. Adjust WID for image width of 30 inches, (22.5*4/3)
    7. Adjust HPOS to center the image.
    8. Adjust PARA and TRAP to minimize geometric distortion.
    9. Switch into Convergence mode and Adjust VLIN to get equally spaced horizontal grid lines.
    10. Measure the length of the central grid lines and note the number of horizontal and vertical grid lines. This information is used to create an overlay grid.
    11. Create the overlay grid on 40x25 x0.003 inch clear Acetate sheet, which you can get at the Art Supply store for under $2. Draw the grid with a fine line erasable pen. Draw vertical and horizontal lines through the center of the sheet so that the lengths are the same as the central grid lines. Now draw the grid so that it has the same number of lines as the convergence grid but are equally spaced, with the outer ones at the ends of the central lines.
    12. Cut off about 1/4 inch from the right side of the sheet so that the sheet can lay flat against the screen, which is slightly less than 40 inches.
    13. Put a reference mark on the TV frame 2.5 inches down from the upper left side of the screen.
    14. Place the overlay on the screen so that the upper edge lines up with the reference mark. The overlay sticks by electrostatic attraction.
    15. Use convergence controls to remove grid distortion and converge grid colors. Refer to the Anamorphic link for details.
    16. Enjoy 1080i.

    Other Comments:
    I didn't realize I could create the overlay grid before placing the Acetate sheet on the TV screen, until I finished drawing the grid with the sheet placed on the screen. I added grid lines as called for in the procedure. I'm sure this method took much longer no only to draw the lines but some of them were difficult to see.

    Part way through the convergence procedure, I became concerned that the image width was off since I did my screen adjustment with wide screen image. Thus, I decided to repeat that step with a 4:3 screen.

    I confirmed the need to press 7 often to save results since after I adjusted one grid color without it, I accidentally hit a key that switched me out of convergence mode and when I switched back, all settings were gone.

    Another mistake I made was not realizing that the cursor color determines which grid gets moved.

    My camera has lines running through the screen. Did I break something?

    Probably not, many digital cameras have the option to display grid lines on the display to make it easier to frame your pictures. Look in your camera manual to see if you can turn grid lines on or off.

    Grid lines can help you frame horizontal pictures (like a landscape).

    One half of the scrren has grid lines and the other half is ok

    need more info: model, dlp or lcd, which part of screen (top, bottom, left, or right). if it's a dlp projector, it could be the dmd chip in the optical engine. if it's an lcd, it's the main board.

    Our hitachi has horizontal lines across the screen first it was just a small area now it half of the screen what could be causing this?

    I have a suggestion that will tell you and me exactly what your problem is--Does set have small button on front that says MAGIC FOCUS? If it does press it and after it starts press it again--it will stop the magic focus and bring up the convergence grid on the screen----you will see a grid of lines and just need to look at them----if red or blue is out of place you have a convergence problem--very common on this kind of set.

    If set does not have MAGIC FOCUS BUTTON (IT IS ON THE RIGHT OF THE KEYBOARD AND MAY BE RECESSED) You can remove the front speaker grill and the inspection plate behind it----there is a tiny small push button switch on the left front of the circuit boards--it will have blue button--us something not metal (I use a eraser end of a pencil) this will engage the set into the same convergence mode.

    You just need to see what the grid looks like--if it is skewed etc--YOU KNOW YOU HAVE A CONVERGENCE PROBLEM.

    If it is a convergence problem I CAN TELL YOU WHAT IS INVOLVED TO REPAIR THE SET---it will depend if you can do it yourself or need to have someone do it for you--most of this repair is just getting at a few parts and being able to do good soldering etc.


    Try to check to see if you actually have a Convergence trouble or something else--if the lines on the grid are not white--red or blue bowed or out of place anywhere--it is convergence problem.

    Seeing is believing and if you see the grid looks bad.

    FORD FOCUS: half of the heated front sreen not working

    With a test light grounded and switch on, go to end & touch lightly then test across touching lightly on grid lines. When no power on light, look for a small break in grid line(s) .You can buy a grid repair kit. Small bottle like nail polish, and touch up any breaks.
