Clearing credit card-sized paper jammed inside the printer
Credit card-sized and 4" x 6" sized paper must be loaded properly. If this media is not loaded properly, it will feed into the printer and will not exit. Credit card-sized paper should only be loaded in the ASF and in portrait orientation. 4" x 6" sized paper can be loaded in the ASF or cassette. But must be loaded portrait orientation.
If credit card-sized paper was loaded in landscape orientation in the ASF and did not eject (exit), please follow this procedure.
  1. Turn off the printer.

  2. Load the same paper type that is jammed inside the printer in portrait orientation.

  3. Power on the printer.
The paper stock in the ASF will automatically feed the jammed paper from the printer.

  4. To resume printing, load the paper in portrait orientation.

If 4" x 6" sized paper was loaded in landscape orientation in the cassette and did not eject (exit), please follow this procedure.
  1. Turn off the printer.

  2. Open the rear cover.

  3. Fold in four a piece of letter-sized plain paper.

  4. Push in the folded paper until it hits the jammed paper.

  5. If the jammed paper is visible from inside the printer area, pull it out and proceed to step 7.

  6. If the jammed paper cannot be pulled out, push in the folder paper from the rear so the jammed paper is in between the feed rollers.

  7. Pull out the folded paper and close the rear cover.

  8. Power on the printer and confirm that the Alarm light is off.
The jammed paper should automatically eject.

  9. To resume printing, load the paper in portrait orientation.

Paper jam

You are receiving this error message because there is a paper jam or the top (photo) tray is not securely in position and the printer cannot initialize. This error message can appear for an ESP 7, ESP 9, ESP 7250, or ESP 9250 all-in-one printer.
To resolve a paper jam, we have an easy Step-by-Step Solutions and Repair tool. Within the tool, select All-in-one printer, then Paper jam.

When you clear the paper jam:
  1. Make sure you open the paper output tray and inspect the top tray for photo paper that could be jammed inside or that remains in the nip at the entrance.
  2. Pull out the bottom paper tray and clear any paper jams.
  3. Remove the duplexer from the back of the printer and clear any paper jam.
NOTE: Curled photo paper could induce a paper jam. To prevent curling:
  • Store un-printed paper in a tightly closed plastic bag or in its original packaging.
  • Store sealed packages of paper flat, and not on
  • When you are ready to print, take only the paper intend to use immediately.
To remove curl in photo paper:
  1. Place the paper in a plastic bag or in its original packaging.
  2. Gently bend the paper in the opposite direction of the curl, then insert it into a tube-a paper towel tube works well.

NOTE: The tube should be larger than 1.5 in. (4 cm) in diameter.
  3. After a few minutes, remove the paper from the tube.
  4. Remove the paper from the plastic bag or packaging.
  5. Verify that the curl has been removed from the paper. Repeat the steps above if necessary.
If the top paper tray is not securely in position and the printer cannot initialize (you may hear a grinding noise, and the top paper tray will not open), contact Kodak.

Kodak 5300 paper jam

What kind of paper is jamming?
The paper could be too thin, or too thick.

Have any young children visited you recently?

My neighbour's grandson thought the paper tray was a great place to hide his Oreo cookie and gummy bears. The crumbs on the roller made the paper wrap around inside. It was cheaper to buy a new printer than pay for a tear down. This happened to my neighbour over Christmas.

Check for spilled ink inside the cartridge area.
If Ink has dripped down on the rollers, that would jam the paper. This would only be an issue if anyone moved the printer. Could your cleaning person have done this? It happend to me, once.

Have you checked the slider that adjusts for different paper sizes?
It could be putting too much tension on the paper and throwing off the timing of the paper travelling through the printer, so the sheet is in the wrong place at the wrong time and jams up.

Is it 8.5" x 11" photo grade inkjet paper or 4" x 6" photo paper?

Before I print, I check that the paper type setting matches what is in the tray. If it is letter size premium photo paper, then I choose that paper in the printer settings. If it is premium letter size paper for documents then I choose that paper, so the printer can adjust itself to the paper.

Are you using recycled paper?
My Kodak, HP, Epson, and Canon printers jam. Recycled paper really screws up my machines. I don't like it and can't use it.

Do you have too much paper in the tray?
Try 5 or 10 sheets only in the tray to see if the amount of paper was the culprit.

Have you tried a different package or brand of paper?
One time a package of 500 sheets of HP inkjet wouldn't go through my KODAK , but worked fine in
the other printers. The next package of HP paper worked fine.

How long has the paper been out of the package and sitting in the printer?

Try fanning the paper.

Has the humidity in your area drastically changed in the past week?
I have to keep the paper sealed in the original package. Inkjet paper out of the package is affected by humidity where I live. Winter heating causes out of package paper to collect static and stick to the rollers. Summer temperatures with high humidity causes out of package inkjet paper to absorb moisture from the room. This humid paper sticks together.

Is the paper meant for a photo copier or laser printer/copier?
I get lousy results with non-inkjet paper in every brand of injet printer I use.

Is it Brand name InkJet paper, like Kodak, XEROX, or HP?
I stick to brand name inkjet and photo paper. Dollar store paper always jams in my printers.

For Document Printing I use either:
Kodak's 24 lb Ultimate Inket Printer Brightness 98 paper,
XEROX Premium Inkjet Brightness 98 24 lb,
or
HP 96 Brightness Premium Inkjet Printer 24 lb paper.

For Photo Printing I use Kodak's Ultra Premium Photo Paper, and adjust the printer's settings for it.

HP 1510 - Photo Paper Jams

Hi, try using HP brand photo paper, HP makes their special photo printers and special photo paper for them.
The surface of the back of the HP's paper is rough, like sandpaper to avoid the paper being jammed in the cheap loading mechanism of their actual printers.
