Microsoft Xbox 360 Console Logo
jay .. Posted on Feb 15, 2011

Okay so i have been using xbox 360 consoles for quite a while and i've never had any big problems that i couldn't work out by myself. But recently one of my wired headsets just stopped playing through its speaker (or so i thought)... i thought it wasn't a big deal cause i've heard they **** out all the time so i tried my other two wired headsets (they had been working to my knowledge..) and neither of them would play through the headset speakers either... also i've tried to see if they would work with other controllers (wired and wireless) no luck there ... does anyone know if its like a bug in the xbox 360 consoles? or did all three of my headsets really break in the same day

Unlikely, but totally possible. Try testing it them in another device or on a friend's 360 just to make sure.

I have an xbox 360 that pops up with the 3 red lights on the front and every now and then the e71 error. How do I fix this problem myself?

Nobody is 100% sure what causes this error but it Most likely relates to dashboard and console updates. Also, the problem appears to arise from gamers incorrectly flashing their hardware or doing botched firmware hacks which then prevent the system from functioning correctly.
Have you recently updated your Xbox 360 in anyway, or have you (or anyone else) attempted some form of firmware hack or flash? If so, this is probably the cause of the e71 code on your Xbox, however, it could also be completely random. If you call microsoft they will most likely tell you to9 just reset but that is only a temporary fix and you still have the problem of annoying freezes which will get worse and worse. Fixing the Xbox e71 is quite tricky. First try these methods,

1) switch off the console. With the console switched off, press and hold the sync button (the small white button that is used to search for wireless connections). While holding the sync button, switch on the console by pressing the power button and do not release hold of the sync button until the console is fully booted up. During the booting up of the console, any failed updates will be cleared allowing the console to run normally once again and thus eliminating the xbox 360 e71 error.

Another similar way is to
2)Hold the wireless connection button on your controller down with the 360 off. It's the little white button between the shoulder buttons. It's what you used to set up your wireless controller with your 360. While still holding the button, hit the XBOX logo on the controller to turn on the XBOX. Do not let go of the white button. After it's fully started up, you can let go. this reverts you back to your last update.

Or if nothing else seems to work you could try completely resetting your Xbox 360. To do this,

3) First enter the dashboard, go to the right-most column, go and press "Initial Set Up" then follow the instructions on screen. If you cannot access this screen due to the e71 error on your Xbox 360, you can try holding the "Y" button on your controller as you switch the console on. This will enter the same process, and restore default factory settings. However, there is still a chance that this might not work.

There are guides available online for less than $30 if you cant seem to get it fixed but make sure you get one that explains all errors as most only tell about the red ring of death.
Hope this helps

My xbox 360 won't read a used skate 2 disc. My xbox does read other discs. Can I fix this myself? If I can, how?

there might be a problem with the disk. if this is so, you can buy special disk fixer to fix it. if this does not work, take your xbox to get fixed.

Guitar hero and other games as well

The problem could be that your console is having a hard time prosessing all of the input. Call up microsoft and send in the console for repair and it will work great.

X-box 360

I recently experienced this problem myself and it lead to the red ring of death.

You can either send the console back to Microsoft if you are still in warranty but you can fix the console yourself using the X-Clamp replacement fix, xbox-scene.com and llamma have tutorials on the fix.

Please rate if at all useful, thanks!
