Question about NAD 533 Turntable

1 Answer

Improving my NAD 533

I have had this turntable for several years and was wondering what i could do to improve its performance. I am a little confused with the modern turntable speak (you seem to have to buy seperate arms and the rest) so have been put off buying an upgrade for £500+ and have decided to spend the money on my existing one.
Any ideas. Cartridges perhaps?

It sounds good, but I'm willing to spend the money to maximize the potential improvement.

Well, I would suggest joining a Turntable, Audiophile, or Electronics forum. There are quite a few out there. All depends on which one you like.

There are plenty of cartridges out there which can provide optimal performance and sound. They range in price from US$50-$400 - all depends on your budget and requirements. I would suggest asking questions in the forums, as many of those people have already gone through what you are going through.

How do I set-up my NAD 533 turntable for initial use???

This Turntable looks nice. The belt goes around the two spindles [one big one small. the speed is adjusted by choosing which part of the small spindle you put the belt on. The upper platter rests on the big spindle and doesn't seem to be secured to it.
The counterweight should simply screw onto the back of the arm.

Where can i get a on/off switch for a NAD 5120 turntable?

You will have to match it up to something that's currently available, as NAD is long out of business. For more information, please visit my website at audioserviceclinic.com. Thank you.

I have a NAD turntable. I have noticed that on occasions there seems to be a background crackle.. Thought it was dust at first !! Have swapped the connection over where the turntable plugs into the amp....

Either you have a poor earth connection or you are getting a lot of static from the records you play. The best way of getting rid of static is a spray you can get for cleaning records. Search on-line for Anti-Static Record Cleaner.

My left channel goes out on my 533, when I touch the RCA in the back, it comes back on for a few minutes then cuts out again???

You need to replace the RCA plug with a new one. If it is on a seperate cable replace the lot, if not cut it off. There are only two wires one earth and the channel, you can't go wrong.

Forgive me for not knowing what any of these parts are really called. My friend just shipped me an NAD 533 turntable & when I received it the cover was cracked and the hinges broken, the round weight...

My suggestion to you, if you really need a turntable is to find one at a flea market, since the ones you currently find in the market are "professional" quality, and are very expensive. The same applies to the stylus (needle). The reason they give you when you ask why: They are somewhat of an oddity nowadays, after CDs, DVDs, and now Bluray!
Good luck!

Nad turntable

the belt (aka rubber band) should be changed when it starts to slip
it is not whats causing the table to turn backwards. it's the motor or circut that drives the motor.
