My son has a PS3 connected through a linksys router (wireless ) in the uk. A couple of days ago his system didnt work and has changed some of the settings..doh I have changed the ssid back to what is...

If the PS3 wont accept your WEP or WPA password it is because it is not the one you chose when you set up the network. The first thing you should do is temporarily disable security on your network and try to connect with your PS3, just to be sure there is not a problem with your network.

If that works, enable either WEP or WPA encryption and choose a new password.

How to instal

Hi,
You'll wanna check out: ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/WNR1000_SM_WW_23Jan09.pdf
Look for "installation"..
To help you set up your router and get on the Internet quickly, the Resource CD contains a Smart Wizard™ Installation Assistant. The Installation Assistant walks you through the steps required to connect your router, modem, and PC(s); configure your wireless settings; and enable wireless security for your network. When you have finished, you will be Internet ready!
You can set up your wireless router using one of two methods:
• Smart Wizard Setup: The Smart Wizard Installation Assistant setup is available on your Resource CD. See "Installing Your Router Using the Smart Wizard" on page 9 to use the Smart Wizard Installation Assistant.
- This is the easiest option. The wizard guides you through the setup process. It automates many of the steps and verifies that the steps have been successfully completed.
- Smart Wizard requires a PC running Microsoft Windows.
• Manual Setup: If you cannot or prefer not to use the Smart Wizard Installation Assistant, see "Manually Installing Your Router" on page 13. For example, if you are connecting to a Mac, are using a Linux operating system, or are technically knowledgeable, select this option. If you choose to use this option and install your router manually, for best results, install and set up your router in this order:
Failure to follow these guidelines can result in significant performance degradation or an inability to wirelessly connect to the Internet.
NETGEAR does not recommend or support adding a NETGEAR router behind another router, or replacing a gateway with a a NETGEAR router.
If you have a Macintosh or Linux system, you must use the manual installation method (see "Manually Installing Your Router" on page 13).Getting to Know Your Wireless Router 7
1. Install and connect your wireless router to your network (see "Connecting Your Wireless Router" on page 14).
2. Set up your wireless router for Internet access (see "Setting Up Your Router for Internet Access" on page 18).
3. Configure your wireless network and select wireless security settings to protect your wireless network (see "Configuring Your Wireless Network" on page 21)

To resolve this issue, disable the Proxy Server on the PS3.

To disable the PS3 Proxy Server:
  1. Open the PS3 main menu and select Settings > Network Settings.
  2. Choose Internet Connection Settings (advance settings) from the list of Network Settings, select Custom, then choose Proxy Server from the list.
  3. On the Proxy Server screen, select Do Not Use to disable it.
Note: Menu options and screen appearance may differ by firmware. For support for your Sony PlayStation 3, please visit the Playstation Knowledge Center at http://us.playstation.com/support/index.htm or contact Sony directly.

Cant get online when i run a test it fails on playstation net work then afterwards says you have been disconnected from media server

Hi,
If you are using a router, the problem probably has to do with the router. In order to find out, disconnect your PS3 from the router and plug it directly into you modem. If your modem is not near your playstation 3 then move it close to the PS3. The modem plugs directly into your cable line so there is a good chance that the television you play your PS3 on has a cable connection. One you have connected your PS3 to your modem, press the reset button on the modem. Turn your PS3 on and go directly to your network settings. Click on Internet Connection Test (do not bother trying to set up a connection manually) If you are getting a connection then you are ready to go.

Thank you!

Verizon card with ps3

This can be accomplished by using a network cable called a crossover cable (cat5 type). This cable is used to connect two computers together. With everything off just to be safe connect your computer to the PS 3 using the LAN ports on each. Start the computer and get online with the um150 then turn on the PS 3. In Windowsxp go to start, programs, accessories, communications,
network setup wizard.Run the wizard. Click next twice and in the third window that pops up you should see Pantech usb modem which is the um150 and local area connection 1 for your computer.
Mine is realtek Ethernet NIC yours may be different but look to see if you have an ethernet connection with NIC in the description. If the box says that a cable or cables are disconnected click the ignore disconnected radial button and click next. In this window choose the top radial button that says
this computer connects directly to the internet. Continue through
the wizard, you won't need printer sharing, and it should have automatically checked the correct connections to be bridged. What this does is bridge the um150 with your NIC through to the PS 3 by the cable. Click next and name your computer and network, you can leave the defaults if you want. Click next to set up the network. At the last window you don't want to set up any other computers so choose the radial button that says "just finish the wizard" should be the last one. The downside to this is that the um150 uses a different IP address every time you connect to the internet so you will have to go through this procedure each time you connect. Now go to the PS 3 and network settings and choose check for wired connection and it should connect.
