The screen is a special anti radiation screen. It is not a good idea to try anything with it. Please do not underestimate the dangers involved in a microwave - it is a very dangerous appliance.

Normally the internal part of the door is not cleaned as there is a film stuck over the inside of the door stopping food and steam from entering the inside parts.
To clean between you need to remove one of the pieces of glass...usually the inside is the best....
There are a few screws on the inside of the door theat hold the frame, which holds the inside glass...
remove the frame and carefully remove the inside glass... clean the inside of the outside glass, then clean the inside of the inside glass and then reinstall the froame over the inside glass...

Mine has a open slot on the top front of the door. Kinda like a double plate window execpt for the opening in front. Why is this there? I don't know. Weird design. But it leaves for the possibilty of liquid to splash in there leaving it hard to clean (like impossible).

Have to replace the door. You probably removed the protective plastic cover inside the unit intended to keep material from passing through the screen into the area where the glass is located. That was my problem. I thought the plastic was shipping material. My Bad! No way to clean the glass from the inside because they "never imagined" someone would remove the plastic cover.
THE DOOR ON MY MAYTAG MICROWAVE OVEN HAS A SCREEN OVER IT. I HAVE SOME FOOD SPATTERS THAT PENETRATED THE SCREEN AND I CAN'T CLEAN THE GLASS THAT THE SCREEN PROTECTS. HOW CAN I REMOVE THIS SCREEN TO CLEAN THE GLASS?

I strongly recommend to have any work on a microwave oven done professionaly. There are radiation leakage issues if the door is not re-assembled properly. After doing any service the microwave oven must be tested for radiation leaks. I doubt that you have the radiation testing equipment to make sure that there are no leaks.
just select your brand and under parts, select doors and handles. It will be called Door film, peel & stick. For my microwave, it runs from $16.00 to $21.00. Seems like a very easy fix.
This door screen as it's called protects the metal mesh screen from moisture and food debris.
The door screen must be replaced or the mesh screen can arc and be damaged, which can lead to microwave leakage.

Be sure to use a cleaner like acetone, etc. to remove all the old adhesive before applying the ne wone, or it will not stick. The door must be squeaky clean and dry.
