ON THE BUTTOM OF THE PHONE IT HAS A STICKER THAT SAYS PRESS HERE TO ACTIVATE THE PHONE I DID BUT NOTHING HAPPENED I RETURNED IT AND GOT ANOTHER ONE SAME THING ALL IT SAYS ON THE HANDSET IS WELCOME PLEASE WAIT! IM I NOT DOING RIGHT
Same thing was happening to my phone...Welcome! Please wait... After at least 40 hours of charging I was getting a little fed up. I picked up the handset, took a ball point pen and pushed the "activation" area on the bottom the phone...heard a click...now it is working. I don't think the tiny pin that comes with the phone activates the phone properly.
Thank you for posting this, I was having the same problem and the pen worked. You need to write to Uniden and ask for a reward, if they don't note that in their phones they are going to get a bunch of these returned.

When a handset is reading "Searching", it can't communicate with the base. First, check if the base station is plugged into a live outlet. (Try plugging the base into a different outlet or making sure that the circuit breaker hasn't popped. I had a cordless phone base plugged into a UPS. During an extended power outage, the UPS was turned off. The phone didn't work until someone noticed and turned the UPS back on.) Move closer to the base station.
If this was an extra handset purchased later, make sure it is compatible with the base station. The Uniden DWX207 works with the DECT1500, DECT2000 and DECT3000 series bases. Register the handset with the base. The registration procedure depends on the base station. If the base unit has an LCD screen, with the phone in standby, press Menu/Select and press the down arrow to reach "Register Handset". Then press Menu Select again. (If the base doesn't have an LCD screen, unplug the power cord. Then hold the Find HS or Find button as you reconnect the power cord until the Charge/In Use light starts to blink.) Then press the # key on the handset before the registration period ends.
Make sure that you haven't exceeded the number of handsets for your base. You may need to de-register all handsets and then re-register them.
If no handsets will pair with the base, replace the base unit. The transmitter or the receiver aren't communicating properly with the handsets.
From your handset, you just have to press the mute button, your phone should start telling you the time, date, ect. press the #5 key and then the #8 key and start recording your message. When finished press the # 8 key again. Hope this helps
Make sure charging indicator showing charge, if so! the battery will need to be replaced, try and get the genuine replacement because there have been problems reported with aftermarket batteries not working in the phones due to the specifications not matching the genuine product.
You can press the [Menu/Select] button to enter the configuration settings. Look for Global settings or Date/Time. Unfold all options to find date/Time. If you cannot find that option, you must set it on the base to which it is registered. This just an accessory handset, and it does not have all possible configuration settings.
Unless you have one of the water proof phones, hold the handset with the keypad facing your palm, and the top facing your body. Press very firmly at the endention on the battery cover pushing it in a little and down at the same time. Sometimes they are pretty tight but it should come off with a little effort. If it is a waterproof phone, there are four small screws at the corners of the battery cover that will need to come out before the cover will come off, be very carefull as the screw heads are fairly easy to strip and if that happens it is almost impossible to put it back together and still have it waterproof.
I found the model no, on the Uniden website DSS 7805WP and down loaded the manual.. there were no instructions .. but i showed where the phone book icon was .. and once inside the phone book the process was the same as the handset that came with the answering machine.
