CREATIVE ZEN V-PLUS. COULD NOT TURN ON AND IS NOT CHARGING

Hi, Gud day!

I was charging my Creative Zen V-Plus with my pc, after quite some time, i checked if it was already full... but when I saw it, it was not charging, it says low battery. when i tried to charge it again by plugging it at another usb port, it will show the sign that it was charging for a second and the image will be almost full but then it will turn into low battery, the red one, a second after...

i could not turn it on again anymore... my computer wont read it either, it turns on but turns off again immediately...

Thank you so much.

The same thing is happening to mine :/ it did this before.... but it all of a sudden starts working randomly usually... I don't like to wait though. It's been over a week :{ Right now it's doing the thing where it shows it's charging (the buttons blink blue, showing that the battery is low, but charging...it's not really charging though. I'm sure it doesn't take DAYS).

  • Anonymous May 10, 2009

I have a similar problem. The reset does not work (tried with a paper clip) and when I try & update the firmware, I get a message that there is no supported hardware attached (via usb) to the computer. HELP!

  • amn384 May 11, 2009

Yeah, I've reset it numerous times as well using the end of an earring until I hear the click. It used to work, but now it doesn't. It usually does this either when I attempt to charge it sometimes or usually when I let it die completely (but then I try to charge it, it says it's charging, and my laptop is new, where if it's on sleep it still charges whatever is attached to the USB port and it never charges). I've tried other USB chords as well, it seems to be the player.... When I attach it, it says it's 'docked' or just the buttons will glow blue, but then it shuts down and says it's docked again (which is annoying when every 5 seconds my computer says that my Zen is now attached/docked/charging and the next second is isn't and it really isn't charging...I've left it there for over 12 hrs.... it didn't charge and all that happened was that it was really hot) or it will show the creative sign on the screen and freeze there. Once it started working, but it was attached the computer and the display backlight had faded and some and kept having these black lines show up on the screen.... it worked for a couple min.and then returned to the previous state.

I got mine back with help from Creative tech. support as follows:
I understand that you are unable to power on your Zen V Plus 2GB player.

I apologize for the inconvenience the product is causing you but please
proceed below for steps to help you fix it.

Please verify that the player is not on screensaver mode by pressing any
buttons.

If you are facing the player, please look over to the left hand side of
the player. The reset hole will be there. Please push that hole using an
object tiny enough to fit in. Please perform this step while the player
is disconnected from a pc and check for any reactions on the display
screen of the player. Verify if it switches on.

If you do not get any reaction, please connect the player to a rear usb
port of a pc then wait for about 10 seconds before
pressing the reset hole. Wait for another 15 seconds before checking the
player display for any reaction. If possible,
try multiple usb ports and computers. Verify if it switches on.

Try using another usb cable as well if you have a spare.

If you only get the battery charging icon, allow the player to charge
for at least 6 hours. During this time, if charging from a USB port,
please ensure your PC does not enter a power conservation mode (Standby,
Sleep, or Hibernate) as this will interrupt charging.

Also, please follow these instructions if you are using Windows XP (home
or pro):

1. right click the "my computer" icon on your desktop, click
"properties"
2. click the "hardware" tab
3. click on "device manager"
4. click on the "+" sign beside "Universal Serial Bus Controllers"
5. right click on "USB Root Hub", click 'properties"
6. click on "power management" tab
7. UNCHECK the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to
save power"
8. please repeat steps 5 to 7 for all the other USB Root Hub on the list

This will ensure that there is continuous power supplied to the usb
ports of your computer.

In the knowledge base solutions Creative gives next answer, when the player does not power on or charge:

>>>>>
To resolve this problem, establish that the player is charging correctly as follows:
  1. Connect the player to a USB port on the back of a desktop PC, to a powered hub, or to a power adapter ( You can purchase the power adapter here as a separate accessory).

  2. Press the reset button and observe the player.

  3. Check the display for the charging icon battery_ac_charge_1.jpg.
    • As the display times out after a few seconds, press any button on the player to reactivate the display.

    • If the battery is fully depleted, the charging icon may not be displayed. Cup the player in your hands to check that the blue power LED behind the Play/Pause and Options buttons is glowing on and off repeatedly. This indicates that the player is successfully charging. After 1 hour of charging, power on the unit to activate the display. The charging icon should be displayed.

  4. Allow the player to charge for at least 6 hours. During this time, if charging from a USB port, please ensure your PC does not enter a power conservation mode (Standby, Sleep, or Hibernate) as this will interrupt charging.
Creative recommends updating your ZEN V or ZEN V Plus firmware to take advantage of new features and functionality. To learn more, visit SID 29048 in our "Further Suggestions".

If you already try both reset, then try doing a firmware update.

On computer try unplugging computer power cable, and if it is a laptop also remove battery, this sort out problems related with electrostatic charges on computer USB ports.

my pc stopped detecting my zen. i tried and tried on all different pcs and nothing would pick it up. couldnt even get the battery sign on the zen. thought it was knacked. then one day i plugged it in again, got distracted and walked away. when i came back about two hours later, it was detected and charging. thought maybe that it was so flat that it had to charge a wee bit before it could display anything or the pc could find it. i dont know, dont know much about these things. just a thought

Try putting the songs on your PC if they are not there already. Delete all the songs from your Zen, then reload them.

My creative zen is completely dead it doesn't power on at all also it doesn't charge there is no power what so ever please help me

I have had the problem of the completely dead player after having it for less that an day. No response to any buttons, no response when plugged into USB to charge, and Windows sees it as an "unknown device" when plugged into the PC. It tried the reset hole, and still nothing.

Then I tried connecting it to the PC to charge and then using the reset hole. Success - the player sprang back to life, fully charged. Hope this helps someone.
