Question about Xerox WorkCentre XD100 All-In-One Laser Printer

3 Answers

Xerox xd100 After using it for a couple prints, the printer green lens stays at the left side and moves back and forth an 1/8 of an inch and won't let me print again. If I turn it off and come back a few minutes later, it works again. If I leave it on, it leaves an E7, or L3 message.

There are a few things to try. If you have been using the device, I'm certain the first one is not it, but power off the machine. Look on the left side in the middle near the top. If there is a silver screw in the device, that needs to be removed. It is the shipping screw to hold the scanner in place when you are moving the device. Next, check your power source. Power off the device and plug it directly into the wall outlet, not into a power strip. The wall outlet needs to be grounded as well. Still have the code? Try the following (this is from the support website)
Performing a Fault Reset 1 01 will reset your Scanner, and allow you to check the Scanner for broken parts as it moves.

  1. Find the pink Clear button on the Control Panel of the WorkCentre.
  2. Find the button below the word Auto.
  3. Press these buttons in the following sequence: [Clear], [Auto], [Clear], [Auto] NOTE: All of the lights on the Control Panel should go out and the LED Display should go blank. If the lights do not go out, then repeat step 3 until they do. It may be necessary to increase or decrease the pace of the [Clear], [Auto], [Clear], [Auto] sequence.
  4. Press the [1's] Key to enter 1 in the LED Display, as if you were to make 1 copy.
  5. Press the green [Start] button. '00' will flash in the LED Display.
  6. Press the [1's] Key to enter 01 in the LED Display, as if you were to make 1 copy.
  7. Press the green [Start] button. '01' will be in the LED Display and '100%' will be selected.
  8. Lift the Document Cover.
  9. Press the green [Start] button. The Scanner Bar should move from left to right under the Platen Glass.
  10. Visually check the Scanner Bar as it is moving to make sure it runs all the way across.
  11. Check the Mirror that follows the Scanner Bar to see if it is broken or cracked. NOTE: If you need to see the Scanner Bar and Mirror move again, press the green [Start] button again.
  12. Press the pink [Clear] button four times.
  13. The WorkCentre should now warm up and come to ready.
If this does not work, you probably need to have the device serviced.

Perform a fault reset 101 as suggested by aaron h . Also,I was told by a technician   that there are 4 possiblilities which could cause that problem .  #1 the printer is searching for toner. So, fill the old one with more toner and  if that does not work then replace the toner cartridge with a new or rebuilt one.  #2 You have cleaned the glass platen and replaced it in the wrong position, therefore, the scanner is trying to calibrate without success so it jogs back and forth. Put it back the way it was before.   #3 you have connected your printer to a power bar ; you should connect it directly to a grounded plug in the wall after leaving it in the off position for 2 minutes or so. #4 There is a defect in the laser unit. In the case of a defect of the  laser device . Just buy a new printer (preferably not a Xerox, there are better brands) : usually the cost of repairing  or replacing the laser  is too expensive ... Frankly, I have tried everything and then I just got fed up and threw the damn thing into the garbage. Life is too short to worry about a stupid printer. --:))

I have a Xerox XD100 black and white copier and it is showing J1 on the display. Wondering what is wrong with it?

J1 is the toner cartridge. Needs to be replaced, printer will not print with a cartridge that is empty.

You can try resetting the Workcentre. Power on, hit "C" then the far left button back and forth 4 times, then enter 14 (like you were going to make 14 copies) hit print. Should clear the code. But if the cartridge is empty the code will return,

Printed images are grainy? especially the skins. any solution

This could be caused by a couple of things. The first one is the toner cartridge. A defective or low toner cartridge can cause light "grainy" looking copies. If you have a spare toner cartridge try that first. The second possibility is dirty scanner optics. The scanner bar that lights up under the glass and moves back and forth has 3 mirrors on it. When they get dirty is causes your scanned image (before it gets copied) to appear light and patchy looking. The glass must be removed by removing the 4 screws on the left hand side. Then the scanner can be pulled out and the 3 mirrors cleaned. If you have the machine hooked up to a computer to be able to print then these mirrors will NOT affect PC prints. If PC prints are grainy then that would point to the toner. The dirty mirrors will only effect the copies.

Service code L 6

This means your mirror motor otherwise known as the laser motor stopped running properly. You can try resetting by pressing "Clear" then the far left key which is the exposure mode key, then Clear again the the far left again. If done quickly the display should go blank. Key in 14 as if making 14 copies. then press the green print button.
Short version: C,far left, C, far left, 14, print
If the code comes back you will need a laser motor which means it's time to look at buying a new machine. If you really want to fix then you can get the motor from
I am not affiliated with the company in any way. Just use them for xerox parts on occaison.

I have Xerox XD100. Machine is very noise. The noise is coming from back of machine. Sand like motor is turning but something is stock (can not moveThis motor look like suppose to move)

There is a small helix gear attached to the shaft of the main drive motor. It cracks or shreads on the inside. You will have to replace the main motor. Not real expensive or difficult to replace.

Xerox workcentre C2424 printer

That means your print head is not tilting back and forth properly. Or moving side to side.
The 2 most likely causes are this. 1. If you remove the side covers, behind the left cover, ( left looking from the front of the machine) about half way back, near the bottom of the machine you will see a stainless steel block, about 1 inch square. Check that for the presence of ink that has leaked into it. normally its yellow. You will have to remove that block and clean it and the shaft that runs through it thoroughly.
2. The print head wiper, That is located between the print head and the drum. You would have to remove the scanner and the ink loader to access that area. But if a machine is not turned off correctly, unplugged or you had a power failure, it may be stuck to the print head. Which you would just have to take care and dislodge it from the print head then run a couple of cleaning cycles, or power on and off a couple of times.
3. You could have a bad wipre blade clutch but thats less likely. If there is alot of ink in the block, clean all around that area, and then, be 100 percent certain the machine is LEVEL. To check. put a level on the platen glass. check for level front to back and side to side, If it isnt level, shim it until it is level. And dont move, I mean relocate the machine when its hot.

Xerox 8550DP ERROR: 07.010.43:16981

Yep, One of 2 things cause this problem 95 or so percent of the time.
There is a print head block on the left side of the frame, about mid way back on the lower portion of the frame. It is about a 1 inch square stainless steel block. That is the pivot block that allows the print head to move both back and forth, and side to side by the X,Y axis motor. That block may be contaminated with spill over ink from the maintenace tray, or from the printer is not sitting level.
If the machine was not shut down properly or if there was a power failure the print head wiper may be tacked to the print head, which would require removal of the side covers and the ink loader to access the print head and drum area. Less likely are a bad wiper clutch.

Envolope Printing

The XD100 has a manual feed on the right side of the device. You can slide the guides to fit the envelope. Use the envelope printing in your program and I believe you need to specify the size of the envelope in the driver. I think you want to feed the envelope face down (side to be printed down) to have it print on the correct side, but I could be wrong. One way to check of course, try it one way and if it prints on the wrong side, flip it over. There may be an image on the feed slot that shows which side to use.
