Question about Projection Televisions

60V500A Blue Spot

Did you have any luck getting Hitachi to replace your light engine? Hitachi told me that I was SOL and that they could not and would not offer any assistance in obtaining a Light Engine. Hitachi customer relations told me that only a small number of owners have had this problem and that it is considered "Normal" for failures of this type

That is bothersome. We have not decided what route to take. It wouldn't surprise me if you called back and got a different answer.

It looks like the red is not converging on my Hitachi 60V500A LCD Rear Projection Television. I'm thinking that I need a new Lamp Engine. Does that seem correct?

Good Luck with this. We have complained about a darkening screen we were told to replace the lamp. We did so for $100. After the problem was only getting worse, they said it was because I did not purchase a "Hitachi" bulb. They stated they knew their's were more expensive ($300) but should solve the problem. Well, we didn't bite. It became clear that we no longer could see blues, pinks, yellow, and most browns. A call back to customer service stating these problems ended with us learning we needed to replace a color engine to the tune of $850-$1200. We have only had the tv for about 4 years. Needless to say we bought a new Samsung Plasma for a little more than the replacement part. Hitachi products, never again.

Hitachi model 60v500a.the middle of the screen is a little yello

If you Google "60v500a light engine" you will learn a few things about this set which was first sold in 2003.

There are some class action lawsuits out there for several Hitachi models made at about the same time.

Most of the time these sets develop a discolored area fairly large in the middle of the screen---a lot of them had a large red or pink oval area but other colors are possible.

This set uses a LAMP for the light source and it directs the light into the optical light engine--at the top of the engine is a 3 inch lens that the picture comes out of and is directed into the mirror which puts it on the screen.

Lots of these sets develop a "burn" inside the engine from the heat--there are a series of lens and baffles inside---even slight separation inside will change the color in some area of the picture.

I am sorry to give you bad news but I have replaced a lot of these engines under extended and when they were new mfg. warranty.

The part is no longer available from Hitachi new--the only way to get one is to remove the one in the set and have it sent out for "rebuild" and the last time I saw one the engine was over 600 dollars at the wholesale level not counting the fact that it is major labor to replace.

Find someone in your area familiar with Hitachi and this model and you will see what I am talking about.

Even though this is not good news, I think it is what your problem is.

If this helps you, rate this solution as I do this here for FREE.

Have a 50 inch Lcd projection Tv and it has a big blue spot in the picture and in that spot the color is all missed up turns ever thing blue can you help me

If this is a DLP, then it could be the light engine. Hitachi has had a big problem with their light engines. You might try to contact coustomer seervice and tell them the symtoms. They sometime have been replacing the light engine for free,but.... you have to pay for the service call. How do I know that..... They replaced mine (50V715) and it cost me $300 for the service call. They will not let you replace it. You have to have an authorized dealer service it.Good Luck! I hope this is helpful.
