I'm afraid that most printers nowadays simply refuse to print unless you have ink in BOTH cartridges. No workaround. At least with an Epson you have the possiblily of buying much less expensive generic refills...If you do this always try and find reviews of the brand of refills...caveat emptor! (buyer beware)
See if your printer has any updated drivers by going to the printer company's website. Sometimes when the software doesn't recognize a 3rd party printer cartridge, it can't collect the data necessary to properly function. This problem could have been corrected if your printer has newer drivers.
Please make sure there is no paper left (jammed) in the printer compartment. Remove the ink cardridge and see if any piece of paper is jammed below or behind the cardridge place. If there is a cancel button press it several times. Switch off the printer and let it for a few minutes and then turn it on. if nothing of the above worked please ask me again
Does the printer attempt to print? Did you replace the black or colored ink? If it was the black ink will it print in color? If it prints in color, check the black ink cartridge for tape residue on the gold contacts. The blue tape will sometimes leave the adhesive on the cartridge and not the tape. It cleans off easy with a soft cloth.
Check "Printer Properties" so that the cartridge is set to color if E-Pxx cardridge is mounted and set to B/W if E-PxxBW cardridge is mounted...(xx stands for number of postcards)
