Question about Canon PowerShot A80 Digital Camera

Vertical lines obscuring image

We have a Canon A80, approx. 4 1/2 years old, never had a problem until now. Worked fine a couple of days ago. Suddenly today the LCD screen is completely filled with vertical lines of various colours, no image can be seen on it. I tried taking pictures anyway (through the viewfinder) and uploading to the computer but again all I can see is vertical lines, no image. When the camera is first turned on I do get the Canon logo on the blue background which works fine, but can't seem to get the screen or actual camera to work properly beyond that. It hasn't been dropped or gotten wet or anything like that.

Well I suspect you are probably right that it's dead, but I am sure that nothing like that has happened to the camera. It's just been sitting on its usual spot on the shelf for the last few days, untouched (and we never use night mode anyway).

When turning the camera on I get the Canon logo startup, then get vertical lines of various colors obscuring the viewfinder. Same lines shoe up in the picture, so it is not just a viewfinder problem.

This may be a manufacturing defect. Canon will repair an A80, regardless of warranty status, if it exhibits particular sensor problems.

The matrix is dead. Probably because of an intensive light got into the lense while the camera was in night mode. It's dead. Nothing can be done.

Then it probably took offence for you didn't pay attention to it and left it all alone for some days )))
