Freecom 500gb storage drive

I was transferring some pictures to my freecom 500gb storage drive when i heard a click and the power in my device went off. I have changed the fuse in the plug and let the device cool down, but it still will not switch on. Please can you tell me how to retrieve the device?

If the fuse has blown then I am almost certain the Drive would be Kaput! sorry..

It may be possible to recover data from ya kaput drive, very difficult and expensive but do-able..

Ya probably should take it to a reputable shop let em have a squiz..

It should automatically allocate a drive letter to it. Go to windows explorer and hit F5 to refresh the display and you should see a new drive letter with the name of FREECOM next to it.

Assuming this external hard drie is powered via USB, you probably just need the drivers:

Freecom network drive corrupted

Sounds like it needs re-formating.

You might try> http://www.freecom.com/ecSupport.asp

Look through there to see if they have a utility that can sort the problem out....
Or a FAQ section where there might be a bit of help with the problem...

These drives need to be in open air or they can overheat and stop working.

Right click on the F:\ ,click format.

Look to see if the details of the drive are in the window.

Capacity ? 150gb ? or something close.
File system NFTS ?

If these details are there you can format the disk again.

Free space availabilities

Is it formatted as FAT32? If so, it doesn't support files larger than 4GB.

Backup the files you have on it, then reformat as NTFS.

Freecom 160GB Hard drive not recognised

Drives do fail Nick. Is it powering up [power supply problem?] Plug it in and go to Start/Control Panel/Admin tools/computer management/storage/ removable storage and disk management. See if the disc is recognised there. If it is not, and if the disk is spinning Try putting it into the deep freeze overnight. Plugging in next morning and if it fires up get as much off as possible before it goes down again.
