Question about Whirlpool GH7155XHS Microwave Oven
My Mom's Whirlpool RM278BXV-4 built-in microwave oven quit working soon after she pushed the start button. Now it has no power at all - no light, and the control panel display is blank. The conventional oven at the bottom has a light when we open the door - so we know power is getting to the unit.
It looks like the problem is a fuse or the control module itself...
The problem I'm having now is that I can't even open the control panel for further troubleshooting. I turned off the breaker at the wall and removed the 2 screws at the top of the panel and now the top can tilt forward a little bit. Then I tried to push it up to unlock it from the tabs at the bottom so I could pull it out, BUT it is really hard. It almost seems that there are other screws securing the panel, but I can't see it.
Could anyone help me and describe how to remove the control panel so I can access the circuit board and/or the fuse(s) to troubleshoot the problem further?
Thank you very much in advance for your help.
You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.
We have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.
At our site, we now have a video available showing how to remove a typical control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.
There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.
Feel free to contact me directly.
We're happy to help you and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.
