Try to remove it under device manager and restart the laptop. If the same problem occurs, the driver for the CD rom isn't installed yet. Better call the Acer tech support for possible part replacement.

Acer aspire 5740 DVD not recognized

Make sure it has power (ejects). Check Device Manager in Safe Mode by pressing F8 during boot. Right click My Computer > Manage. Select Device Manager > View > Show Hidden Devices. Now delete all DVD/CD-ROMs and reboot. Windows will say "New Hardware Found" and install. Check BIOS by pressing F key (correct F key is noted during boot) and make sure BIOS see's the Optical Drive.

I am wanting to change my broadband connection to a wireless connection to use with multiple connections. Does the Aspire L3600 have what is needed for a wireless connection? I can't find any details.

The Acer Aspire L3600 only comes with a wired network option in the original basic configuration. Some models had an added WLAN card filling the mini-card slot. The best way to check if the WLAN card is in your computer is to check the Device Manager. In Windows Vista, Click Start > Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Device Manager (except in the Classic view of the Control Panel). For the Classic View there is a direct link to the Device Manager on the Control Panel. For XP, it's Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Device Manager (in Classic View, just skip the Performance and Maintenance step). If you upgraded to Win7, Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers > Device Manager. Scroll down the list to find any Wireless drivers that are installed.

(If you have one of the machines with Unix, check the specific documents. My Unix experience has always been wired.)

The Aspire L3600 specs are available here: http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/desktop/0000/Acer/AspireL3600/AspireL3600sp2.shtml .

I hope this helps.

Acer aspire can't find the dvd to play cd's

In the device manager, select the DVD ROM and UNINSTALL / REMOVE the device.  Restart Windows . . . did this work?  If not, boot into your CMOS and see if the drive is being detected by the motherboard... if yes, look further and make sure the settings for the drive are correct. Make sure that all IDE interfaces are enabled in the CMOS settings (both)

After installing vista service pack 1 my dvd rom is gone.

Download the latest driver for dvd rom from Acer that will work with Vista SP1. Also try uninstalling the device in device manager and restart your computer. Vista may find "new hardware" and install the driver from its driver pack in SP1.

If windows sees the drive in device manager you can attempt to update the firmware. To access device manager, right click on My Computer and then go to properties. Then click the Hardware tab and then the Device Manager button. Look under DVD/CD-Rom Drives and see if it's listed. If it is, then get the model information off the the drive. Sometimes it is listed in Device Manger, sometimes not, you may have to take the drive out of the PC. After you get the info, post it here and I can point you in the right direction of a firmware update.

Dvd/cd-rom not working

From the desktop, right click on My Computer and select Properties. In the System Properties, browse to the Hardware tab and select Device Manager.

In there, expand DVD/CD-ROM Drives and right click on the appropriate hardware and select Uninstall. Click on OK when prompted.

Reboot the computer. After entering the desktop environment, the computer should start installing the drivers for the DVD/CD-ROM automatically (after startup applications are registered).

Hope this helps :) Kindly leave a rating. Thanks..
