Question about Printers & Copiers

1 Answer

The print head on my ink jet is not printing red or yellow in the test program. I've got a i960 printer. Can I get a replacement print head mailed to me or is there a dealer in my local neighbor. Zip = 77505.

The actual print nozzle is typically on the ink cartridge itself, the casing of the print head is little more then a plastic holder for the cartridge. Before you replace the whole thing try this...

  1. Clean the plastic the color cartridge sits in with alcohol and a cotton swab. Especially where the copper makes contact.
  2. Clean the ink from the copper portion of the color cartridge and if possible replace the cartrige temporarily with a new one.

Sorry, didn't realize that the canon i960 had the nozzle in the print heads instead of the cartridges. This site sells the heads

http://www.precisionroller.com/print-hea... has them on sale for $79. I also saw some cheaper on Ebay.

But I'm looking at the cost of replacement and the time you will have to put into it and wondering if it is really worth it. If the head is something your planning to replace anyway, why not remove the old one and try soaking the nozzleit in a 20/70 water alcohol mix or scrubbing it similarly with a swab.

I know I'm probably not going to earn a great ranking on this one, but I've seen a lot of issues regarding these printers and you could get a new one for almost the same cost that will give you less trouble.

The red ink is printing yellow

Print a "test" page, to prove that the RED ink-cartridge is not empty.

Run a few "print-head-cleaning" cycles, to make sure that the ink-jets that spray RED onto the paper are not clogged.

My printer ink is full and it just printing in black and yellow

The ink leaves the ink-cartridge, and should flow through the ink-jets to be sprayed onto the paper.
If some of the ink-jets are clogged (blue, red) and some of the ink-jets are fine (black, yellow),
then you need to run a few "print-head-cleaning" cycles, to try to unclog those ink-jets.

I just replaced the black and cyan ink in my i960 printer -- now nothing prints at all -- blank pages. I checked to make sure all of the packaging was off the cartridges

Run the Canon printer-software to launch a "print-head-cleaning" task,
because you may have "clogged" ink-jets, so that no ink can be sprayed onto the paper.

Test to see if FIXYA "censors" some words:

Start with the word CALM ( calm ) and swap the middle letters: **** ( **** ),
as in the ****-shell model of Apple portable computer,
or a cell-phone that opens like a ****-shell.

Do you see <star><star><star><star> instead of the word?
How about STUCK ( stuck ) and omit the 'T' to become: **** ( **** ),
as in "the printer sucks ink from the ink-tanks and jets the ink onto the paper".

I960 resume light flashes yellow 5 times 1 green

Five yellow flashes indicate that the printer doesn't recognize the print head, or thinks that the wrong print head is installed. You can try to remedy this by opening the cover, removing the ink tanks, then removing the print head (lift the locking lever). Check that the copper contacts on the back of the print head are clean, then reinsert the print head, lock it in, and reinstall the ink tanks. If you still have the error indication, the print head may be bad and need replacing. Contact Canon for your options on this.

Print colour is off

Sounds like you have cyan and magenta ink but no yellow. (You need yellow to get yellows, greens, reds and orange shades.) First try running the printer utility to clean your ink jets, then run a test print. If this does not work then simply replace the yellow ink cartridge.

Canon i960 printer won't print in blue

Your problem is the print head. You can buy one from Canon for about $95, or find them new from dealers on Ebay for $60 to $70. For a less expensive fix, try to remove the print head and clean it. (You don't need any tools, just remove the ink tanks and pull the print head forward and out. Over time, the receivers tend to get dry & crusted ink on them. Note that the inks used are fast drying inks to keep your pictures, etc. from smudging after you print them. Try not to use solvent. I use q-tips and hot water, then dry using another q-tip. If this does not work, there are commercial cleaning kits available for about $10. Short of that, your choice is to replace the print head or the printer itself. My i960 prints such good quality color prints and normal color printing, that I would fix it rather than replace the printer. I hope the easy cleaning does it for you!

Canon i960 will not print in black ink

Yep same as above. Black prints very light gray after 5 years of good printing. Tried every test, replaced black cartridges with different brands. Just wondering if somehow you can clean the heads. I'm convinced the black head is almost totally clogged. Does anyone know how to remove the printer heas to do this?

Red and Yellow not Printing at all.

Did you use third party carts?

If yes, buy original brother ink carts and do the cleaning cycle again. If you are lucky the printhead isnt clogged due to the third party ink which has not the additives and glycerin needed for the printhead to run without probs.

In case the head is clogged there is nothing more what you can do. Sorry!  A replacement might costs more than a new mfc 440cn!
