Unit wont heat - Amana AMV6177 Convection/Microwave Oven

how long have you had it, parts and shop time may exceed the value of a new unit, I do not repair microwave, when they don't work properly I replace them

The unit is not producing microwaves, therefore replace it.

the magnatron is probably burnt up...
how old is the unit?
what brand and model is it?

Sorry to read about your problem.
It seems your have a general failure in the power control or switch failure on the unit. if your unit has power, and things lite. it is more likely you have a control/switch problem,

Microwaves must be serviced by technicians due to the inherent dangers involved in repairing these appliances. Internal capacitors can retain a lethal electrical charge even though the unit is completely unplugged. A microwave radiation leakage test must be performed on the unit following any internal component repair.

in 99 % of cases the problem is the magnatron it is a very expensive part and unless the microwave is well worth the money we normally write the units off

The magnetron is what makes a microwave heat. The megnatron can go bad causing no heat but let the rest of the unit work just fine.

two things could be wrong. One, There is an inline fuse that allows the current to flow to the magnatron. If this fuse is blown then the unit wont heat. Remove the outer cover and follow the cord into the unit and you should see the fuse. Make sure you replace this fuse with the same type. If the fuse doesnt work then the magnatron has gone out and cost for repair is about the cost of a new microwave

look at the $2.00 door safety interlock switch(s) before you replace the very expensive (and hard and dangerous) magnetron.

HI, the high voltage capacitor is unstable and, it has damaged the Magnetron. you will need to replace the Magnetron. it will run you about $191.30. this will restore the heating action in your microwave unit.

microwave ovens have a special Magntron fuse that is inside the body of the microwave its much bigger than a normal fuse, if its blown the microwave wont work.
