I can't put my password in -- when I type the first character, I get an error message. Soft resetting isn't working.

To reset your Windows Live Hotmail password and create a new when you have forgotten your old:

• Type your Windows Live Hotmail address underWindows Live ID:.

• If you have provided an alternate email address for your Windows Live Hotmail account:
  • Make sure Email me a reset link is selected under Select an option for resetting your password..
  • Click Next.
  • Open the message from Windows Live Team with the subject Windows Live Password Reset at your alternate email address.
  • Follow the link under If you requested this password reset, go here:.
• If you have a set up a security question with a secret answer:
  • Make sure Security Question is selected under Select an option for resetting your password..
  • Type the answer to the question that appears after Question: under Secret answer:.
  • Click Next.
• Type the desired new password under New password: and Retype new password:.
• Click Continue.
• Click Done.

This issue is cause by old computers trying to access a router that uses a password configuration that the old computer doesn't understand. It will never work on his router as it is setup right now for that particular computer.

You have to either change the router password type to an old type like WEP. It's not as secure but makes things work none the less.

Also the error message you are seeing is most likely due to the fact that the PSN isn't full up in running in all parts of the world.

first try a soft reset or try a default password 1234


if that doesnt work you will need to do a hard reset. this is how there are two ways here is way number one

To do a hard reset its a bit of a pain

while pressing and holding both soft keys which are the two dashes just bellow the screen push the stylus into the reset hole pic above
Keep pressed until the warning appears. continue

If the device just starts up quickly then you have done a soft reset only.(as mentioned above)
Try again all three things must be done at the same time and held until the hard reset message appears.

If you succeed in hard re-setting but the password is still asked for then we may need an extra few steps to ensure the registry is cleared. .

way number two..

press and hold the left &right soft key, and at the same time, use the stylus to press thereset button at the bottom of your device.
release the stylus but continue pressing the 2 soft keys until you see a message on your screen



Release the two soft keyss, and then press the green call button on your device.


To perform a hard reset using Clear Storage if you can access it

1. Tap Start > Settings > System tab > Clear Storage.
2. Type "1234" in the box and tap YES.

• 1. While in standby mode, press the left soft key for Menu
  2. Select Settings (9)
  3. Select Reset Settings (8)
  4. Press the OK button to check the box(es) for the following:
  • All: Phone, Display, and Sound settings will be reset to the default values
  • Phone settings: Only the Phone settings will be reset to the default values
  • Display settings: Only the Display settings will be reset to the default values
  • Sound settings: Only the Sound settings will be reset to the default values
  5. Press the left soft key for Reset
  6. Press the left soft key for Yes to reset the handset
  7. Enter the password, using the keypad, default password is "00000000"
  8. Press the left soft key for OK to reset the handset

go to the router settings page on one of the computers connected to the network.

open the web browser.

go to http://192.168.1.1

username and password is: admin

then on the tabs you should see secruity and your password will be in there.

just remember when you connect you need to maybe press a button on the router to put it in pairing mode.

Looks like you either forgot your password or not typing the password in correctly. I have done that many times - I found when using the multiple character keybord i was typing the wrong character. Double check what you are actually typing in.

So, the message means the device will reset as in it will wipe all the data to standard settings after 6 attempts.

Just a protection system on BB's. Your device will perfectly fine once your device resets and you can enter a new password :o) but you will loose all the data like emails/txts/calender/notes from the device.
