Question about Garmin GPS

2 Answers

I have a Garmin 450 I jsut purchased. I have no problem using the GPS unit on the road following the map system. I am having a problem downloading a special route from the computer to the device. In the Utilities it ask for the Unit's ID but the cursor won't move with numbers or letters. I don't really know what the ID is anyway. Also, If I try to tranfer from the computer to the device, it tells me the the box that it can't find my device. I have unlocked the maps. I purchased this on line at Staples. Again, the unit works fine, just can't downlond from the computer. Help. I have printed the user's manual and still having problems. Thanks for your response.

Hello,
Try to reinstall the drivers of the Device from the computer and then reinstall them that should solve your USB detection problem..then Try to UPdate the software version which should get you out of the probelm..you can download it from the following link

http://www8.garmin.com/support/agree.jsp?id=3505

Also If u got the device in a BOX then try to check for the Unit ID in that because it differs for individual devices!!!..Thank you!!..

Regards!!..

Unit ID had been provided with Garmin documentation, usually is printed on a kind of visitcard with other specs.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

My gps is set on peru and i am in the us, the gps can not find the maps of us. thx ziv

You'll have to load the North American maps into the unit. Go to www.garmin.com and register your unit with the site. You will then be able to purchase the north american maps and download to your unit using the Garmin updater on the site. The maps are all serialized to work with each unit ID, so a North American map on another user's Garmin will not work on yours (it is Garmin's proprietary copy protection system).

Are there free road info download available

No. If you want usefully updated maps, then you have to pay for them. Garmin do offer a "lifetime" maps subscription, but it's only for the lifetime of your product: given that most Garmin SatNav units don't last long enough to benefit from more than a couple of years worth of updates it's usually cheaper to buy the single update option, although the lifetime subscription gives you four updates per year and one-off is just a single annual update.

If your unit also needs updated traffic and camera alerts then it can be cheaper to buy a new satnav.

My Garmin nuvi does not show rerouting of roads.

a map update "may or may not" fix the problem, because it depends on the date of the map updates and when the construction took place.

you can go HERE and download and install the web updater and follow the instructions.

it will tell you if there is an update for your maps

let me know if you need further help

Garmin 330 GPS using abroad

In order to use the C330 in foreign countries, you need to purchase the maps for those countries and insert the SD card into your unit. You will then have to select the proper maps to use on the unit. These maps are available for purchase at www.garmin.com.

As far as getting around closed roads, your unit will automatically recalculate your route if you are unable to take the suggested route. You can purchase updated maps, but I do not believe this will help you will roads closed for repair.

I Would like to update my Garminc330. I have a glitch in the map (tells me address doesnot exist, when I know it does)

Garmin puts out map updates on a regular basis. You must purchase these. The GPS comes loaded with maps that are current as of the date of production of the unit. It cannot "know" when new roads are paved and new subdivision are created without being "told" via map updates. The unit knows where it is in relation to the maps loaded on it by receiving signals from the GPS satellites in orbit. If things change, the maps must be changed in order for the unit to give you correct directions.

Have you updated the software since you purchased the unit? If not, go to Garmin's site, download WebUpdater and check to see if there is an update to the unit's software. If so, download this and see if it helps. If not, try downloading the same version of the software again. This might help also.

Route calculation error

I was having the same problem and contacted Garmin support.

What I had done was turned off the Basemap that came with the unit. I only had the mapsource map street map on which I had purchased separately.

The technician basically said the unit needed the basemap to "locate itself". Somehow the basemap supports any maps you purchase separately. That seemed odd but once I turned the Basemap back on it calculated the routes and the error message went away.

If you have the Basemap off, try turning it on from the Map Setup - Information window.

Hope this helped.
