Sony TC-138SD cassette deck starts to play then stops after 3 secs. Same when trying to rewind/fast forward

It sounds like the belt is slipping or broken which monitors the speed of the tape movement. When you play or rewind the tape, it thinks the tape has reached the end of play and shuts off. You can try a different tape to make sure the tape does not have too much tension on it. If the second tape has the same result you will need to remove the top cover of the deck to inspect the tape drive mechanism. Make sure the belts and pulleys are clean and replace any belts which have glazing or cracks. If the belt is broken you will need to replace it with a compatible belt of the same length and width.

Deck a dont play or rewind or fast forwed

The unit needs service but may not be worth the cost of the job. Dual cassette decks in all brands are constructed very poorly- that is why I do not own one but have dozens of other good decks that still work after 30 years.

I have a multitrack cassette recorder MCR-4 made by AMR. In fast foward or rewind it only runs for a few secounds and stops. It does this each time you press the direction button. The tape does stay...

Hi the most common problem i have found here is that although the tapes look OK, they are very tight in case to go forward/back. Banging on the side of the cassette fairly hard on a flat surface a few times, both sides, quite often get rids of it. If that doesnt work, then will need a service on machine. Also try a new cassette..

Best of luck

Cassette player is eating tapes

Hey there.
Cassette head cleaners generally only improve the sound quality on playback. This problem sounds more like something mechanical; I would open the player and check out the capstan and rollers. If they are dirty, clean them with a mild soap and water solution, (carefull to not get it too wet). Also, as for the tape deck in your vehicle, OEM systems are notorious for eating and destroying cassette tapes.
Let me know how this goes over,
HortonA!

Cassette Recorder play problem

Sounds like the tape tension sensor is stuck. The sensor is always telling the mechanism that the tape has reached the end.

Teac A-21 Stereo Cassette Tape Deck turns un, but won't play cassette tapes...

very likely that the drive belt has broken. I have fixed a TEAC myself using a large O-Ring from a hardware store (I know I was lucky to find a very close match). Open the unit and find the broken belt and take it to a hardware store to "size up" a replacement. Use the opportunity to oil the gear shafts and clean the rubber pinch roller.
