in reply to your answer no the fans are not working when switched onjoecowell Ive just bought a NEC VT440 projector from ebay uk now the power light is always orange and the status light is flashing red ive looked at the bulb it seems fine ive check the air vents seem fine, ive followed the instruction manual and pressed every button bout still nothing happens no lights noise or anything is it a dud
Here is a link to the manual for the vt440: http://www.necvisualsystems.com/Documents/UserManuals/MAN_VT440-540.pdf
near the end it lists the error codes that the lights give, so by counting them you can work out what the problem is. Also, it could be the bulb, as after 2010 hours on the bulb it won't turn on, to prevent the bulb physically blowing.

hi, Possible problem is the faulty lamp cooling fan. Check the lamp cooling fan of your projector. if the RPM of fan is low then the lamp can get over heated. May be its has some problem.Do one thing, Remove the fan from the projector. In the fan there will be a specification sticker. Remove the sicker. now u can see a hole in the center. its the bearing part of the fan. put one drop of oil in it. u can use any type of lubricating oil. rotate the fan leafs with finger for some time. after that re-stick the spec sticker. insert the fan in the projector.
i have added a video how to oil the fan for make it easy for you.
Hello. First check the lamp! From your description, it sounds like the projector is telling you that the lamp needs to be replaced. In "eco mode", when the power is green and the status is steady orange, that is the error message. In "high brightness mode" the status will be steady red. Hope I helped you.
My first thought, based on what you said, is for you to check the resolution being sent to the projector...if it's too high,(above the projector's ability to display it) you'll get a distorted or even a blacked-out display. Also, check the settings for the program which is running the DVD. There could easily be an option set incorrectly.
My VT440 says this when it gets to it's pre-defined service life. (a certain amount of hours)
As long as you pop the filters out regularly and clean them (I use a vacuum cleaner) you shouldn't need to replace them.
After that, go into the projector options (with the remote control) and reset the factory defaults... otherwise it has no idea that you have actually changed the darn thing and keeps complaining no matter what! =-]
Your post "...GET AUDIO FROM...PROJECTOR AUDIO OUT ...TO THE AUDIO IN...TEAC DVD..."
The normal answer is yes.
However in your particular case, even if you do it that way, there will be no sound getting into the Teac DVD setup since standard 4 pin S-cable carry only video signals (luminance & chrominance) and no audio component/signal. If you run an RCA cable pair from the cable box's audio out aside from the S cable to the inputs of your projector, then it will work.
An exception would be an 8 pin mini-DIN that looks like an S cable which carries also audio signals.
Hope that this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.
