Laptop screen why can't I use my laptop outside?? The screen is very dim, hard to see what I'm typing (am NOT using it to access Internet, only create text). Both battery and plug-in are similar, screen is like a mirror, reflecting everything even in shade!!!! Only INSIDE, within 4 walls, is the screen bright enough. I'm NOT making any keyboard adjustments.

Laptops are made to be portable, but they don't seem to be made to use outdoors. I have two laptops and can't use either outside unless it's dark. The problem is that the back light for the screen isn't strong enough, and the screens, mat or glossy, are made to be used inside. Outside the glossy reflects everything, and the mat actually attracts more light to it, making it impossible to see anything on the screen. There are a few companies that make laptops with outdoor screens, but they're very expensive machines, ie... Panasonic Toughbook.

Your computer's BIOS screen can be incredibly useful when you need to make certain hardware or system configurations.
How to access the BIOS on your laptop varies from manufacturer to manufacturer and model to model.
Even though Acer laptops are created by the same manufacturer, not all models access BIOS in the same manner.
While accessing the BIOS setup screen in and of itself is not difficult all you need to do is press a key the difficulty is in figuring out which key to hit.
Restart or power on the laptop.
Hit the "Pause/Break" key the moment the Acer boot screen (not the OS start-up screen) appears.
If the OS start-up screen appears before you can hit Pause/Break, you will need to restart the laptop.
Press "F2" or "Del" to access the BIOS set-up screen.
Depending on the age of your Acer laptop, you may need to instead press "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Esc" simultaneously to access BIOS.
Using the arrow keys navigate failsafe or optimized defaults press F10 to safe to cmos and exit to restart.

Laptop screen resolution problem and solution

Laptop Screen Resolution Problems and solution
By hamack4real, fixya Contributor I want to do this! What's This? jQuery('.intro .thumbnail').each(function(i,e){ jQuery(e).find('img').one('error',function(){ jQuery(e).remove(); }); });

Laptop screen resolution problems can vary for a variety of reasons. The most common types of problems generally involve some sort of hardware or software issue that causes the display to not work correctly. Correcting a laptop screen resolution problem can be done by making changes to hardware or software settings used by the computer.

    Symptoms
  1. There can be many symptoms to a display problem. Symptoms can include a screen that appears dim or one that is totally black. Other symptoms include odd colors or blotches that appear on the display as well as oversized icons on the desktop. Symptoms can also include icons that are the wrong size on the desktop.
  2. Causes
  3. There can be many causes that can result in different issues affecting the display. Common causes include damage or loose parts. Damage can result when the laptop is dropped or has something fall on top if it. Hinges that are loose are going to cause a problem because the display will not stay in an upright position. Other causes include a bad video driver or an improperly set resolution.
  4. Diagnose
  5. A screen resolution problem will need to be diagnosed to determine what actions to take to resolve the problem. Check the laptop for any loose or broken parts that might need to be repaired. Once that is done, run a test of the video display. Use the video display troubleshooter for Windows XP systems, the help and how-to for Windows Vista systems and the troubleshooting guide for Apple computers.
  6. Solutions
  7. Changing the resolution of the display can be done to fix some types of screen resolution problems. Changing the resolution can fix display problems with some programs as well as websites that have embedded video. Refer to the laptop manual for instructions to access the display settings to change the resolution setting. Updating the video driver might also help to resolve some known issues by the vendor.
  8. Brightness
  9. A dim screen can be corrected by adjusting the brightness of the display. Adjusting the brightness can be done on the keyboard as well as from the display properties. Press the FN key on the keyboard and use the right arrow key to increase the brightness of the display. The brightness settings can also be found as an option in the display settings. Keep in mind a laptop will dim the screen to conserve battery

Unlock administrator password

At some point, you'll encounter a password issue on your Toshiba laptop computer for several possible reasons. For instance, you may have decided to go back to the old laptop, and it's been a while since you last logged into it. Forgetting a password is also common if you tend to create different codes for various uses: email, network administrator user information and bank account details, for instance. Should you need to unlock a Toshiba laptop computer that runs on Windows XP, here is what you can do.

Use a Windows installation CD to reset your password for your Toshiba laptop computer. This is the same one that you got when you purchased the computer. Boot the laptop using the CD in the same way that you would go through a re-installation for your operating system. Simply insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive and wait for the computer to read it. From there, you will get a prompt that says "press any key to boot from CD," so you just need to follow as instructed. Repair Windows. Once the CD starts up, you will get to a screen that will ask you whether you want to "Install Windows" or "Repair Windows." Press "R" to repair. The computer will then reboot itself after copying files from the CD into the Toshiba laptop's hard drive. Get into the control panel. After the computer boots up, you will encounter a screen that will say "Installing devices." To open the command prompt, press the keys "Shift + F10." On the command prompt, type in "nusrmgr.cpl." Change your password. Getting into the control panel will allow you to change your password using the administrator's control panel utilities. Just go through the process of designating a new password to unlock your Toshiba laptop and then exit the command prompt. Restart the laptop and try logging back in using the new password. Log on without the Windows XP installer. If you don't have a Windows bootable CD, use another computer with internet access so you can create an emergency recovery disk (ERD) that will allow you to unlock a Toshiba laptop. Browse through the internet and search for ERD software. Burn the ERD program into the blank CD and use it to reboot the Toshiba laptop that you want to unlock. The computer will automatically detect the program, so it will take you to a series of prompts where you can change your password.
Just download our Login Recovery utility to recover your lost Windows passwords.

Remove and repair partitions on dell laptop

Boot up with the Windows installation CD start and follow the instructions to install Windows.
Next Delete the existing Windows partitions.
Next Create a new single partition.
Next format this new partition - Format the partition in NTFS not a quick format. This will prepare the Windows for a clean install.
Next create a Username and company name (normally Home is all you need).
Further into the installation, you will be required to put in the Installation code. During the final stages of installation you need to create an User or Users that will use this computer. When you finished installing Windows you need to install the laptop's device drivers. You need to use a computer with Internet access to download these drivers from the laptop manufacturer's WEB site and install these drivers on your laptop.

Forgot my password in cmos harddisk

The hard disk password is setup using the BIOS configuration, this password is stored on the hard disk and there are no backdoor passwords you can use except the password you created and if you know this password then you can remove it permanently using the BIOS configuration. Moving this hard drive into another laptop will not work either, it won't allow access to this hard disk.
Your only option is to purchase a new hard drive to replace the one with the password.
If you also created a BIOS password, you need this password to get into the BIOS configuration.

All these passwords are created by users to prevent unauthorized access into the laptop and hard disk.

User password lockout

Hard disk password is set from the BIOS. It is usually set in conjunction with the Power On Password. This password is stored on the EEPROM chip and is very difficult to crack - no backdoor passwords. It is used to prevent unauthorized access to the laptop and the data on the hard disk. Removing the hard disk and inserting it into another computer will not allow access to data without the HDD password.

Acer aspire 3000 dropped on floor. Random startup events

theres a good chance that the hard drive platletes and parking head have been damaged, although this is not a huge problem to replace, as long as your screen is working ok, then it is worth replacing. you can access it on the underside of the casing, in the largest compartment, remove all screws and the hard drive will be held in with more screws.
