Question about RCA DRC8030N

Can It get a Virus?

My drc8030n is acting very erratic. Tuner sometimes works and other times gliches- ie freeze then funky electronic sound and suddenly starts back up but skips all the time in between. DVD Play/recorder seems fine but in the Library things can be normal and then go haywire. eventually it freezes and I have to unplug it for a few minutes. But it wont work for very long. I wasn't sure if it could get a virus or if the hard disk was going bad-if so where do i get another?

You can try to reset the unit by pressing and holding the play and open buttons for like 10 seconds ( do this while there is no DVD inside and while in the main Menu screen....also, you will loose ALL data when this is done). If this does not change the problem, then it is most likely due to a power issue. I have corrected this problem by swapping out the power assembly in the unit. If interested in a unit (it is a unit that is stuck on the HELLO issue..so non-working) that can be used for parts, then contact me at www.suncitybargains.ecrater.com

That does sound like the most likely issue is you MAIN PCB. You will need your complete model/serial# then see the following web site:

Your set requires a qualified service technician to repair it. Sears repairs all major brands, regardless of where you purchased it. There are also many other repair facilities in your local area:

Hello.

Before formatting your operating system, check your memory. Remove all modules and add one at a time to test to see if problem memory is causing the freezing.

Also, download and install some free software such as Malwarebytes (anti-malware) or Comodo.(anti-virus).

Hope this helps.

This sounds like you may have a virus running up cpu time or a trojan of some sort, try running a virus check Antivir is a good free virus cleaner, also run spybot search and destroy to look for spyware. sometimes viruses attack windows system files to keep you from being able to get rid of them.

Goodmans GML22W29H work irractically come on sometime not at times

This is a problem across the range, very slow start up times and erratic operations. An impercfect fix for the tuner being slow to start up is the connection via scart or hdmi of an external freeview tuner.
I have the same issues and had to resort to an external tuner it cured 99% of my issues

That sounds about right if you have cable instead of an antenna cable. If it can't tune anything but 5 channels in, that's all it claims; set it to CABLE IN instead and try that so the tuner can get along with your cable box. If you really do have an antenna hooked up, get it away from whatever's reflecting signal and screwing up reception.

These units have flaky TV tuners. Try connecting the coax cable (the one with the cable television signal or antena) to the back of your TV first and from there take the output to the input of the DVR. By doing this, you will beusing your TVs TV tuner vs the DVR's flaky one.
