If you gently push up on the door latches (hook-like devices on the door) there should be spring tension. If they just flop right up, the spring is off.

Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.

If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.

The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.

We have critical safety & disassembly info at our site, linked here.

You can order Panasonic parts here.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

We're happy to help you and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Just fixed my microwave door thanks to this. Problem was indeed the piece of plastic securing the spring had broken. Not suprising! I just rigged up two screws wedged in the recess where the plastic piece was. When reassembling the door the plastic cover did not fit back due to the screws. I just heated up my screwdriver on the hob and melted away the plastic obstruced. looking at it you'd never know! Fixed in 10 minutes! Genius! Oh...I used a normal kitchen knife not a putty knife.

I had the same problem with a Panasonic NN-H965BFX where the tab broke. I hooked a paper clip around one of the plastic clips that hold the inner door assembly and then hooked the spring to that. The latch on this microwave has always been a little flaky and it works better than new now.

One of the hooks on the door is broken. Why has oven stopped working?

The 'hook' on the door is a door catch and it has safety interlocks in the sockets in the body of the microwave. The door has to be firmly closed and all the safety interlocks in place before the microwave will operate.

Door release buton does not open the door

You can disassemble the microwave oven and check out the release mechanism. You'll find several hooks that hold the door closed and a linkage mechanism to the door opening button. There may be a broken piece of plastic or maybe just a loose or missing screw that holds linkage together. In the case of a broken plastic part, you can fix it with a 2-part epoxy adhesive, but you'll need to permanently splint across the break with a piece of metal or strong plastic that you've scavenged from somewhere. Before epoxying the splint in place, rough up all plastic surfaces where you want the epoxy to stick well.
Good luck.

Why does Panasonic nn-sn651 usually work; but sometimes, turntable won't start ?

This is an inverter model so there is no diode or hv capacitor.
You must adt. the door latch switch assembly to make sure that the door hooks make contact with the switches. Common problem is that the assembly is bent and must be perpendicular to the door.If it is bent the switch will not make contact with the door hooks.
Place a dab of lithium grease on the tip of the door hooks to ease closing the door. This is the cause of the bent switch assembly!

I laughed my socks off. Without the door hook the door opening or closing mechanism is completely broken. If you have the time you could unplug it and dis-assemble the whole thing from the back and re-assemble it with a new hook, perhaps make a new hook from aluminuim sheet. I would throw it away and but a cheaper microwave.

Samsung microwave #SMH1611B door won't close

If it has the "double hook" type latch on the door, see if the hooks slide up and down. They should be spring loaded,if not,the spring attachment point inside the door may have broken off(my Sharp Carousel did this).I pryed the plastic door trim loose, and reattached the spring by using one of the slots inside to hold a metal wire clip(modified with needle-nose pliers) to hook the spring onto.Your door's design may be a little different, but a similar solution will probably be apparent after you get in there.

Panasonic nnt774sf door will not remain closed. It appears the top plastic piece on the microwave itself (not on door)that the hooks latch on to is broken. Is there a way to fix this?

You can purchase parts for Panasonic microwaves but home repair is not recommended due to them being lethal if you do something wrong. I would find a good local repair shop and they should be able to find the part and repair. It might not however be cost effective, depends on the part price.
