Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators

Kenmore thru the door icemaker tends to freeze up in the discharge suit and ice backs up. Sometimes the exterior of the door is warm, other times not. Have to take off bucket, clean the chute, melt the ice on the round drive shaft, and put together. Is there a broken part that is supposed to keep the chute from freezing??

The ice is released from the icemaker.

The problem is that ice freezes in the chute from the ice basket to the front of the door.

That can mean the valve in the back of the fridge or the valve in the icemaker is bad so kindly check on that one..

Hope that helps.........

Check the evaporator fan, if ice is not being released, the evaporator that is supposed to melt the ice surface, and release it, is not working.
The evaporator is connected to a solenoid, common faults are broken contact, faulty fan motor , faulty solenoid.
Check if you appliance is still under guaranty.
Consult last pages of your user manual to find out details on how to get repair service, or eventually validate guaranty.

Kenmore refrigerator, model #60267990, serial # EJ5036206, water leaking from the freezer into the fridge on shelves into veggie bins, drain hole freezes up, defrosted it about 2 months ago, and has...

a plugged or frozen drain is a common problem that occurs from time to time in just about all refrigs. Folllow theses directions and it will probably not occur again for 2-3 years.

  • Unplug refrigerator
  • unload food from freezer
  • remove icemaker if present (there are 3 screws remove the one on the bottom and loosen the 2 on top of icemaker then lift it off the 2 screws unplug from wiring harness)
  • remove 2 screws holding rear cover in place
  • move cover to the side or remove from unit altogether
  • defrost any and all ice from bottom of freezer and aluminum drain pan that is now exposed
  • flush drain hole that you will see once ice is cleared with warm water. (sometimes I use a large syringe or turkey baster to forcefully flush hot water thru the drain tube)
  • reassemble in reverse order

Ice maker works but will not discharge ice thru the door.cannot hear the motor running

The motor for the ice discharge is located in the door by removing two screws that hold the panel in place. Then there is a wire harness that plugs into the motor. This many be loose or have bad connection so take it apart and look at the prongs. If that is fine. Try removing the ice bucket and try it. The ice may be frozen in the mechanism. The last thing is there is some sort of toggle or switch that prevents the ice or water from being dispensed when the door is open. It may not be working thus telling the fridge the door is open at all times and preventing electricity from going to the door ice dispenser.

Ice maker not producing any ice.

Pour about 1/2 cup of water into icemaker . Squeeze the black fill tub which is above the icemaker cup . If ice apears to be in it , this indicates that the weter valve is not completely closing , letting a drip ocasionally go thru and freezing inside the tube , ( water valve bad ) . that will be a different solution . If the icemaker dumps the cubes after freezing . and black tube is not frozen , replace the water inlet valve . If the icemaker does not dump the ice after frozen , replace the icemaker ( only 1 screw holds the icemaker in , located on rear portion on right , faceing down . Also check the icemaker rake , which should be about the 2:30 position . To thaw out the black tube (which runs thru the top of the refrig ) a 1/4 push on connector will be needed . Remove the icemaker and use a hairdryer aimed up into the hole . Cut the tubing to the fill tub behind the fridge about 9 inches from where it enters the top of the fridge . This will let warm air inside the top fill line to help thaw . Ocassionally blow thru the 9 inch tube until you can blow thru it . May take a day or 2 , depending how frozen the line is . Once air will go thru , install the push on connector to couple the cut lines back togather .

The blinking red light on the right side , is the receiver for the electric eye for cutting off the icemaker when the door bin is full , This blinking is normal . 2 blinks ...pause...2 blinks..etc .

Do not replace the filter if water flow is good thru the dispensor .

Stop working

Likely that the water supply tube to the icemaker is frozen. It will be a white rubber tube on the right side of the icemaker. Warm it with a hair dryer, remove it from its aluminum tubing, and make sure there is no ice all the way back to where the supply tube comes from the water valve. After thawing, your icemaker should start working again.

Now..... why did it freeze? Most likely, there is a restricted airflow to the back of the unit, which is need to keep that aluminum supply tube just warm enough to assure all the water flow OUT of it into the icemaker, and doesn't freeze up on contact. Make sure your coils and the airspace under the fridge are completely clean (vacuuum them well) and it should cure the problem.
